Abdullah Al Kafi
Abdullah Al Kafi (28 February 1945 – 12 September 2005) was a Bangladeshi politician, educator and social worker. He was a member of parliament for Dinajpur-1 constituency from 2001 to 2005 (his death). Early life Kafi was born on 28 February 1945, in a small village named Nowpara, in Birganj Thana of Dinajpur, which was under Bengal Presidency of British Raj. His father, Moulavi Moydur Rahman, was a farmer. Kafi had three brothers, and three sisters; including three stepbrothers, and three stepsisters. Kafi was elected as a member of parliament of Jatiyo Sangshad from Dinajpur-1 constituency, in 2001. He studied his bachelor's in economics at University of Rajshahi, as well as master's degree with honors. Manoranjan Shill Gopal ( bn, মনোরঞ্জন শীল গোপাল; born 1 January 1964), also known as Gopal, is a Bangladeshi politician who has served as Member of Parliament for Dinajpur-1 since 2005. Career Gopal unsuccessfully contested Jatiyo Sangshad (National Parliament) constituency Dinajpur-1 in 1991 under the National Democratic Party banner, in June 1996 as the Jatiya Party candidate, and in 2001 as the Islami Oikya Jote candidate. Abdur Rouf Chowdhury (1937-2007) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the former Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-1. Life and career Chowdhury was born on 28 December 1937. He completed his undergraduate from Dhaka University. He was a student leader during his studies, developing a friendship with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It was on the instructions of Rahman that he went on to represent the student council of Dinajpur SN College. Chowdhury was the founding general secretary of Greater Dinajpur (now Dinajpur-Thakurgaon-Panchgarh) District Bangladesh Chhatra League during the Pakistan period. Birganj ( bn, বীরগঞ্জ) is an upazila of Dinajpur District in the division of Rangpur, Bangladesh. Geography Birganj is located "between 25°48' and 26°04' north latitudes and in between 88°29´ and 88°44´ east longitudes". It is situated on the bank of Dhepa river, midway between Dinajpur and Thakurgaon. It has 42,323 households and total area 413 km2. Dinajpur district ( bn, দিনাজপুর জেলা) is a district in the Rangpur Division of northern Bangladesh. Dinajpur is the largest district among all sixteen northern districts of Bangladesh. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. 2014 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 5 January 2014, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the term of the Jatiya Sangshad on 24 January 2014. The elections were not free and fair. They were preceded by a government crackdown on the opposition, with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Opposition leader Khaleda Zia was put under house arrest. There were widespread arrests of other opposition members, violence and strikes by the opposition, attacks on religious minorities, and extrajudicial killings by the government, with around 21 people killed on election day. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance including Ershad's Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats out 300.
