Dimitris Xistras
Dimitris Xistras ( el, Δημήτρης Ξύστρας) (1954 – April 26, 2023) was a Cypriot actor. Early life Xistras was born in the village of Agios Epiktitos, in the Kyrenia District of Cyprus in 1954. In 1973, as part of his conscription, he entered the Special Forces of the Cypriot National Guard and was placed in the 32nd Assault Company of the 33 Commando Battalion, eventually taking part in its battles during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. He later went on to study at the Higher School of Dramatic Art Theater of Karolos Koun, to become an actor. Career In his career, he worked with the Theatrical Organization of Cyprus, the New Theatre of Vladimir Kafkarides, the Satirical School, the Theatre of Arts in London, with regards to TV, worked mainly with the Cypriot State Broadcaster RIK and ANT1 Antenna, better known as ANT1, is a television network airing in Greece. The Turkish invasion of Cyprus began on 20 July 1974 and progressed in two phases over the following month. Taking place upon a background of intercommunal violence between Greek and Turkish Cypriots, and in response to a Greek junta-sponsored Cypriot coup d'état five days earlier, it led to the Turkish capture and occupation of the northern part of the island. The coup was ordered by the military junta in Greece and staged by the Cypriot National Guard in conjunction with EOKA B. It deposed the Cypriot president Archbishop Makarios III and installed Nikos Sampson. The aim of the coup was the union (''enosis'') of Cyprus with Greece, and the Hellenic Republic of Cyprus to be declared. Agios Epiktitos ( el, Άγιος Επίκτητος; tr, Çatalköy) is a village in Cyprus, located east of Kyrenia. Kyrenia District
Kyrenia District is one of the six districts of Cyprus. Its main town is Kyrenia ( el, Κερύνεια; tr, Girne). It is the smallest of Cyprus' districts, and is the only one controlled in its entirety by the unrecognised de facto state of Northern Cyprus, where the same territory is administered as the ''de facto'' Girne District, a distinct entity. The Theatre Organization of Cyprus (THOC, Greek: ΘΟΚ), also known as Cyprus Theatre Organisation) is the first semi-governmental theatrical organization in Cyprus. Established in 1970, THOC has a nine-member Board of Directors that appointed by the President of Cyprus for a three-year term of office.
