Dimitri Mobengo Mugianis
Dimitri Mugianis (born August 4, 1962) is a harm reductionist, activist, musician, poet, writer, anarchist, and psychedelic practitioner. Early life Dimitri was born in Detroit, Michigan to a politically leftist Greek American family. While still a teenager, Dimitri began writing poetry and songs, and using drugs. The first great artistic and personal influence on his life outside of his family was the late photographer Misha Gordin, with whom he collaborated with on film projects and performances culminating in a special homecoming show at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit in 1985. In 1977, Mugianis formed a band with Glenn Johnson called Mr. Unique & the Leisure Suits, later renamed Leisure Class. The band experimented with a very wide range of styles, from punk rock and rock opera to "Weimar oompah," often inciting rage in their audiences. AIDS Epidemic
The global epidemic of HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) began in 1981, and is an ongoing worldwide public health issue. Joseph Tony Serra (born December 30, 1934) is an American civil rights attorney, activist and tax resister from San Francisco. Early life and education A San Francisco native, Serra was raised in the Outer Sunset district. Ego Death
Ego death is a "complete loss of subjective self-identity". The term is used in various intertwined contexts, with related meanings. Jungian psychology uses the synonymous term psychic death, referring to a fundamental transformation of the psyche. In death and rebirth mythology, ego death is a phase of self-surrender and transition, as described by Joseph Campbell in his research on the mythology of the Hero's Journey. It is a recurrent theme in world mythology and is also used as a metaphor in some strands of contemporary western thinking. In descriptions of drugs, the term is used synonymously with ego-loss to refer to (temporary) loss of one's sense of self due to the use of drugs. Harm Reduction
Harm reduction, or harm minimization, refers to a range of public health policies designed to lessen the negative social and/or physical consequences associated with various human behaviors, both legal and illegal. Harm reduction is used to decrease negative consequences of recreational drug use and sexual activity without requiring abstinence, recognizing that those unable or unwilling to stop can still make positive change to protect themselves and others. Harm reduction is most commonly applied to approaches that reduce adverse consequences from drug use, and harm reduction programs now operate across a range of services and in different regions of the world. Icaria
Icaria, also spelled Ikaria ( el, Ικαρία), is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, 10 nautical miles (19 km) southwest of Samos. According to tradition, it derives its name from Icarus, the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who was believed to have fallen into the sea nearby. Administratively, Icaria forms a separate municipality within the Ikaria regional unit, which is part of the North Aegean region.
