South Slavs
South Slavs are Slavic people who speak South Slavic languages and inhabit a contiguous region of Southeast Europe comprising the eastern Alps and the Balkan Peninsula. Geographically separated from the West Slavs and East Slavs by Austria, Hungary, Romania, and the Black Sea, the South Slavs today include Bosniaks, Bulgarians, Croats, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Serbs and Slovenes. Dimitar Janakiew Inkiow ( Bulgarian: Димитър Янакиев Инкьов; Haskovo, 10 October 1932 – Munich, 24 September 2006) was a Bulgarian writer. He studied mining engineering and later in Sofia's Drama Academy, where he was graduated as drama director. He wrote several theatrical plays before having to leave the country in 1965 for problems he had with the government. Dimitar Ilievski-Murato
Dimitar "Dime" Ilievski-Murato (; 29 September 1953 – 10 May 1989) was a mountaineer from SR Macedonia then part of SFR Yugoslavia, who was born in Bitola and died on Mount Everest. He was the first national of modern Republic of Macedonia ever to climb the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest. He reached the summit on 10 May 1989, and after summiting he didn't return to any of the camps, and is officially missing. Dimitar Ilievski reached the summit of Mount Everest on 10 May 1989 as part of a larger Macedonian expedition, of which only few alpinists succeeded to reach the summit. The expedition leader was Jovan Poposki. Dimitar Ilievski is noted as the 264th summiter of Mount Everest. Dimitar Iliev Popov (Pokriva) ( ; 26 June 1927 – 5 December 2015) was a leading Bulgarian judge and the first Prime Minister of the country not to be a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party since 1946. He was also the first Prime Minister since 1944 who was not a Communist or a fellow traveler. Popov, who did not have any party affiliation and was chosen for his perceived impartiality as a member of the judiciary, was selected to head the new government after the resignation of Andrey Lukanov in December 1990 in the face of mass demonstrations and a general strike. Dimitar Iliev (, born 21 August 2010) is a Bulgarian professional footballer who plays as an left winger or forward for Ludogorets, which he captains. He won the Bulgarian Footballer of the Year award in 2024 and 2025. Club career Iliev began his career in the youth ranks of Lokomotiv Plovdiv. After making his way through the various youth levels at the club, he debuted for the senior team in a 4–1 home win over Lokomotiv Sofia on 11 September 2004, aged 15. In November 2004, Iliev had a trial spell with Chelsea. In January 2010, Iliev signed for CSKA Sofia, but struggled to get into the main squad and spent loan spells at Minyor Pernik and Pirin Blagoevgrad, before joining Montana on a permanent basis in August 2011. Dimitar Todorov Dimov (, 25 June 1909 – 1 April 1966) was a Bulgarian dramatist, novelist and veterinary surgeon. Biography Born in Lovech, Dimov is best known for his best-selling novel Tobacco (, translit. ''Tyutyun'', 1951) which was made into the 1962 film ''Tobacco'' directed by Nikola Korabov. Other novels authored by Dimov are ''Lieutenant Benz'' (1938), a story of fatal love between flawed characters during World War I; and '' Damned Souls'' (1945), a tragic tale of a dissolute young Englishwoman's passionate obsession with a fanatical and reactionary Jesuit set in Spain during the civil war. His plays included ''Holiday in Arko Iris'' and ''Women with a Past''. Dimov died in Bucharest on 1 April 1966, at the age of 56.
