Dimestore Hoods was a rock band composed of Jim Korthe (lead singer and drums), Todd Deguchi (guitar), Tom McNerney (guitar) and Dave Wadsworth (bass). They produced one album for MCA Records in 1996. Jim Korthe
Jim Korthe (June 26, 1970 – January 13, 2010) was an American heavy metal music, heavy metal musician and social worker. He was a drummer in the 1980s thrash metal band Phantasm (band), Phantasm, and he later fronted the nu metal band 3rd Strike (band), 3rd Strike. Life and musical career Korthe grew up in San Pedro, California. After displaying interest in music early in his life, he became involved in local bands. In 1987, at the age of 16, he joined Phantasm (band), Phantasm. Something of a heavy metal supergroup (music), supergroup, the band also featured original Metallica bassist Ron McGovney, and singer Katon W. De Pena of Hirax. Despite garnering local popularity, the band dissolved after a short career due to internal tensions stemming from age divides and alcohol abuse within the band. Nu Metal
Nu metal (sometimes stylized as nü-metal, sometimes called aggro-metal) is a subgenre of that combines elements of heavy metal music with elements of other music genres such as hip hop, alternative rock, funk, industrial, and grunge. Nu metal bands have drawn elements and influences from a variety of musical styles, including multiple genres of heavy metal. Nu metal rarely features guitar solos or other displays of technical competence; the genre is heavily syncopated and based on guitar riffs. 3rd Strike was an American nu metal group, started by Jim Korthe (lead singer), Todd Deguchi (guitar), Erik Carlsson (guitar), PJ McMullan (drums) and Gabe Hammersmith (bass). Their lyrics were primarily based upon the former lives of the group's members. In May 2002, they released their debut and only album, '' Lost Angel.'' They toured with Ozzfest and Warped Tour to promote their album, but broke up shortly after. Their song "Into Hell Again" was featured on the '' Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life'' soundtrack. Metalcore Musical Groups
Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming.
