''Digital Lows'' is the debut mixtape by American rapper, Cities Aviv. It was released on May 2, 2011, through Fat Sandwich Records. Produced by various artists including Muted Drone, RPLD GHOSTS and Danny Dee, the mixtape earned attention and critical acclaim from various music publications. Musical style and production The beats on the mixtape, which feature chillwave elements, were described as "imaginative but still traditionalist." The track "Black Box" samples Gil Scott-Heron's "Winter in America." The track "Die Young" features a looped sample of Depeche Mode's "People Are People," creating a hybrid style akin to "Rammellzee's Experimental hip hop, avant-rap and Southern hip hop, Southern fight-rap." Gavin Mays (born 1989), better known by his stage name Cities Aviv, is an American rapper and record producer from Memphis, Tennessee. Early life Gavin Mays was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Overton High School and Cordova High School. At the age of 20, he dropped out of the University of Memphis, where he studied journalism. Career Prior to his career as a rapper, Mays was a lead singer of a hardcore punk band, Copwatch. During his involvement with the band, he began experimenting with hip hop music, eventually making a full leap into the genre. The Alessi Brothers, also known as Alessi, are an American pop rock singer-songwriter duo who first came to international prominence with their 1977 hit single "Oh Lori". The duo are identical twin brothers, Billy and Bobby Alessi (born July 12, 1953, West Hempstead, New York). Career In their early teens, the brothers attended West Hempstead High School and formed the band The Country Gentlemen with schoolmate Don Droege and drummer Bob Pelicane. The band often played at a teen club called The Mod Scene and Long Island summer beach club gigs, as well as playing at other venues which included Murray the K's World in Roosevelt Field, the Raleigh Hotel in the Catskills, and The Café Wha? in Greenwich Village. Natural Elements are an American underground hip hop group from New York City, active since 1993. Origin Brought together in 1993 under the direction of Charlemagne, Natural Elements began as a group consisting of solo artists Mr. Voodoo, L Swift, Ka, Howie Smalls, G-Blass, and the InTIMidator. In 1994, Natural Elements dropped its first 12" with "The EP" which was produced by Charlemagne under Fortress Entertainment. L Swift, Ka and Mr. Voodoo received the most attention initially. Soon after, Ka would voluntarily leave the group. The Nonce
The Nonce was a hip-hop duo from Los Angeles, California, that was active in the 1990s (releasing material from 1992 to 1999). As part of the Project Blowed collective, working with Aceyalone, among others, the duo developed a reputation for smooth, jazzy, classy production, complemented by laid-back, smart rhymes (paying homage to the Old School emcees they grew up listening to in the mid-1980s). 1990-1995 In 1990, after their high school graduation, The Nonce began recording its first album. Soul music is a popular music genre that originated in the African American community throughout the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
