Captain Boomerang
Captain Boomerang is the name of two supervillains appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, who respectively serve as enemies to both the Barry Allen and Wally West versions of the Flash. Created by writer John Broome and artist Carmine Infantino, the first Captain Boomerang, George "Digger" Harkness, first appeared in ''The Flash'' #117 (December 1960). He has also been a prominent member of the Suicide Squad since its second iteration in the late 1990s. During the 2004 storyline ''Identity Crisis'', George Harkness is killed and his son, Owen Mercer, created by Brad Meltzer and Michael Turner, takes over his father's role as Captain Boomerang for a period of time. However, during the 2009–2010 ''Blackest Night'' storyline, Owen is killed and Harkness returns to life, resuming his role as Captain Boomerang, and evolves as a genuine threat after the loss of his son. The Adventures of Digger and Friends was a series of vignettes that showed during NASCAR on Fox pre-race shows in 2009; notably, the character of Digger would also make a brief cameo in that year's film '' Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel''; the character is briefly seen when a lead character's car zooms past him on a busy street, prompting him to joke "Feels like I'm back at the racetrack!". Digger is a military slang term for primarily infantry soldiers from Australia and New Zealand. Evidence of its use has been found in those countries as early as the 1850s, but its current usage in a military context did not become prominent until World War I, when Australian and New Zealand troops began using it on the Western Front around 1916–17. Evolving out of its usage during the war, the term has been linked to the concept of the Anzac legend, but within a wider social context, it is linked to the concept of "egalitarian mateship". Origin Before World War I, the term "digger" was widely used in Australasia to mean a miner, and also referred to a Kauri gum-digger in New Zealand. Digger is an American pop punk band from Pennsylvania, signed to Hopeless Records. History Digger formed in the Lehigh Valley in the mid-1990s and signed to Hopeless Records in 1996. Upon the event of Digger's live recording being played on WMUH the word of the band spread quickly, which led to the band's sign to Hopeless Records. The band released their first LP, ''Powerbait'', and toured until the band came back to the studio to record ''The Promise of an Uncertain Future''. The band became a three piece in this era, and launched a world tour. Then ''Monte Carlo'' was released as a follow-up. Not very long afterward, Digger released the ''Trainwreck EP''.
