Diego Vásquez (herpetologist)
Diego Martín Vásquez Castro (born 3 July 1971) is an Argentine football coach and former player who is the manager of Honduran club Motagua. Club career Nicknamed ''Barbie'', Vásquez played most of his career in Honduras as a goalkeeper, most notably for F.C. Motagua where he conquered several titles and individual awards. He began his career playing for his hometown club San Martín de Mendoza. His debut for Motagua occurred on 24 August 1997, where he saved two penalty kicks in the 1–0 victory over C.D.S. Vida. According to Diego, his most memorable event as a player took place in the final series of the 1999–2000 Honduran Liga Nacional season against Club Deportivo Olimpia where after a 0–0 global score, the title had to be decided by penalty shoot-outs in which Vásquez saved the decisive kick to give Motagua its 8th national championship. San Martín is a city in the north-center part of the Mendoza Province in Argentina. It is the capital of the San Martín Department and constitutes, with Palmira and La Colonia, the third-largest metropolitan area in the province. 2017 Honduran Supercup
The 2017 Honduran Supercup was a match arranged by the Honduran Liga Nacional and the Honduran Cup which took place on 2 August 2017 between C.D. Marathón, winners of the 2017 Honduran Cup and F.C. Motagua, overall winners of the 2016–17 Liga Nacional season. This was the first official edition of the Honduran Supercup and the 5th overall. Qualified teams Background F.C. Motagua qualified as overall winners of the 2016–17 Honduran Liga Nacional after winning both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments. This was the first appearance for Motagua since 1999. Meanwhile, for C.D. Marathón, this was their first ever appearance in a Honduran Supercup. They qualified as winners of the 2017 Honduran Cup where they defeated C.D. Honduran Supercup
The Honduran Supercup is a Honduran football competition held yearly as a preseason match between the reigning champions of the Liga Nacional and the Honduran Cup. The competition started unofficially in 1997, but was discontinued after just two seasons. In 2015, it was intended to be reactivated, but the match between F.C. Motagua and Club Deportivo Olimpia was scheduled but not played. One year later, a new Supercup edition was finally reestablished after 17 years of dormancy. The Honduran football authorities however, did not consider the competition official until 2017.
