Diego Corrientes (1959 Film)
''Diego Corrientes'' is a 1959 Spanish historical adventure film directed by Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi and starring José Suarez, Marisa de Leza and Eulália del Pino.de España p.285 It portrays the life of the eighteenth century highwaymen Diego Corrientes Mateos. Synopsis The greed and usury of the Count of Albanes has inflamed the town where Diego Corrientes lives. He confronts the tyrannical count and the latter takes revenge on him by whipping him in the woods. After being rescued by Beatriz, the count's fiancee, Diego is arrested again, managing to escape from the galley that takes him to Seville, but in the scuffle a soldier accidentally dies, which causes Diego to be accused of murder. At that time, Diego Corrientes formed a gang with a few evicted peasants and fled to the mountains, devoting himself to stealing from the rich to distribute among the poor. Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi
Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi Lasa (22 March 1927 – 28 September 2017) was a Spanish film director and producer. Isasi-Isasmendi began working in the production firm Emisora Films as an assistant manager, film editor, scriptwriter, lead producer, and finally director. In 1955 he founded his own production company, Producciones Isasi in Barcelona. He founded a second firm, Moon Films, in Madrid. In the mid-1960s he directed a series of action films designed for the wider European market including ''Scaramouche'' (''The Adventures of Scaramouche'') in 1963 ''and Estambul 65'' (''That Man in Istanbul'') in 1965. He made some English-language films, most notably ''They Came to Rob Las Vegas''. He abandoned directing for a decade after making ''El Perro'' (''The Dog'') in 1977 in favour of producing and distributing films before returning to the director's chair with ''El Aire de un Crimen'' (''The Hint of a Crime'') in 1987. Diego Corrientes Mateos
Diego Corrientes Mateos (August 20, 1757 – 1781) was a Spanish bandit famous for his generosity to the poor. He was born in Utrera, Seville on August 20, 1757, and died by hanging in Seville in 1781. In 1780, Charles III of Spain offered 100 gold pieces to anyone who captured Corrientes Mateos dead or alive. Corrientes Mateos fled to Portugal but was captured by the governor of Seville and a band of Portuguese under Captain Arias. After being brought back to Seville, he was tried and sentenced to death by hanging. After his death, his body was cut into pieces and sent to the different provinces where he had been active. His head stayed in Seville and was buried in the Church of San Roque, where it was found in the 20th century during restoration work.
