"Didn't I Break My Heart Over You" is a single by London glam rock band, Rachel Stamp. This single was the band's second release via the Cruisin' Records label, and reached Number Three on the NME Independent Singles Chart in February, 2000. The single was released on two formats (CD single and a limited edition 7" vinyl) two weeks prior to the release of the " Hymns For Strange Children" album and featured two songs left over from the album recording sessions - "Black Tambourine" (a live favourite) and a cover of the Warren Zevon song, " Carmelita". There was no promotional video made to promote this release. Rachel Stamp
Rachel Stamp are an United Kingdom, English rock band formed in London in 1994. Their debut album, ''Hymns For Strange Children'', was released in 2000, followed by ''Oceans of Venus'' two years later. History Rachel Stamp were formed in 1994 when David Ryder Prangley met Will Crewdson before recruiting Cliff Harris and Mike Rowe. The band signed to Warner Music Group, WEA Records, but were dropped without releasing the album they had recorded after Clive Black, who had signed the band, left the label. Harris and Rowe left soon after before Crewdson and Ryder Prangley recruited drummer Robin Guy and released several E.P.s through their own label 'Bitch Vinyl'. The band built up a considerable live following and received favourable coverage from magazines such as Kerrang!, Melody Maker and Metal Hammer. They appeared in the film 'G.M.T. John Fryer (music)
John Fryer (born 1958) is an English record producer. Best known for his production work, he has also performed as a musician, as one of the two constant members of This Mortal Coil (along with Ivo Watts-Russell), providing keyboards, strings and synthesizer sequencing for the band, and its offshoot, The Hope Blister. Career Fryer started out at Blackwing Studios in south London, working with bands on the 4AD, Mute, Rough Trade and Beggars Banquet record labels, including Depeche Mode, Fad Gadget and Cocteau Twins. His work with the Cocteau Twins, helping to develop their ethereal and ambient sound, led Watts-Russell to recruit Fryer as his musical and producing partner for This Mortal Coil. This single was the first release via the Cruisin' Records label, an independent record label set up by the band's manager, Sil Wilcox, and distributed across the UK by Pinnacle. Warren Zevon
Warren William Zevon (; January 24, 1947 – September 7, 2003) was an American rock singer, songwriter, and musician. Zevon's most famous compositions include " Werewolves of London", "Lawyers, Guns and Money", and "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner". All three songs are featured on his third album, '' Excitable Boy'' (1978), the title track of which is also well-known. He also wrote major hits that were recorded by other artists, including " Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Accidentally Like a Martyr", " Mohammed's Radio", " Carmelita", and " Hasten Down the Wind". Carmelita (song)
"Carmelita" is a country rock song written by Warren Zevon. The song was originally recorded by Canadians, Canadian singer Murray McLauchlan on his Murray McLauchlan (album), self-titled album of 1972. Zevon himself recorded it four years later, in 1976, on his Warren Zevon (album), self titled album. Linda Ronstadt recorded a well known version in 1977, and various covers have followed. These include a folk version by punk rocker GG Allin - a version rumored to feature Linda Ronstadt herself (under the soubriquet 'The Razor') on backing vocals - and a later rendition by the folk-punk group Lost Dog Street Band. ''Stampax'' is a live album by London-based glam rockers Rachel Stamp, released on September 1, 2000, on Cruisin' Records. The album was recorded during the band's UK tour in support of their debut album, '' Hymns for Strange Children'' Background The ''Stampax'' album was originally intended to be a live recording of just one gig from the "Hymns for Strange Children Tour", but due to the fans demand for more rare material, the band recorded lots more gigs for the album. Another title proposed for the album was ''Old Enough to Bleed''. Originally issued as an “Internet Only and Mail Order” release that was only available through the Official Rachel Stamp Website, ''Stampax'' wasn’t issued to stores as a single CD until late September 2002.
