Didiom was a digital media company focused on developing peer-to-peer audio streaming and mobile music bidding applications. The company’s placeshifting technology allowed users to stream music from their home computer collections to mobile devices without requiring data cables or memory cards. Didiom also offered a licensed catalog of over two million songs, where users could purchase music or bid for downloads by naming their own price, introducing a novel music purchasing model. Space shifting (or spaceshifting), also known as place shifting (or placeshifting), allows media, such as music or films, which are stored on one device, to be accessed from another place through another device. Space shifting is frequently done through computer networks, for example by viewing a television broadcast from a WiFi equipped set-top box on a WiFi equipped notebook. Other media shifting processes include time shifting, a process whereby a radio or television broadcast is recorded and played back at a different time, and format shifting where media files are converted into different formats. Mobile music is music which can be transported, or in other words, mobile. The term itself is a quite ambiguous. An outdated definition is as follows; 'mobile music is music which is downloaded or streamed to mobile phones and played by mobile phones. Although many phones play music as ringtones, true "music phones" generally allow users to stream music or download music files over the internet via a WiFi connection or 3G cell phone connection. Music phones are also able to import audio files from their PCs. The case of mobile music being stored within the memory of the mobile phone is the case similar to traditional business models in the music industry. It supports two variants: the user can either purchase the music for outright ownership or access entire libraries of music via a subscription model. Windows Mobile
Windows Mobile is a discontinued mobile operating system developed by Microsoft for smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDA). Designed to be the portable equivalent of the Windows desktop OS in the emerging Mobile device, mobile/portable area, the operating system is built on top of Windows CE (later known as Windows Embedded Compact) and was originally released as Pocket PC 2000. Microsoft introduced the Pocket PC keyboard-less PDAs in 2000, with Pocket PC 2000 being the software.
