Battle Of Didgori
The Battle of Didgori was fought between the armies of the Kingdom of Georgia and the Seljuk Empire at the narrow place of Didgori, 40 km west of Tbilisi, on August 12, 1121. The large Muslim army, under the command of Ilghazi, was unable to maneuver and suffered a devastating defeat due to King David IV of Georgia's effective military tactics. The battle at Didgori was the culmination of the entire Georgian–Seljuk wars and led to the Georgians' reconquest of Tbilisi in 1122. Soon after that David moved the capital from Kutaisi to Tbilisi. The victory at Didgori inaugurated the medieval Georgian Golden Age and is celebrated in ''The Georgian Chronicles'' as a ( ka, ძლევაჲ საკვირველი ''dzlevay sak'virveli'' lit. the "''miraculous victory''"). Mount Didgori
Mount Didgori ( ka, დიდგორი), 1647 m, is situated some 40 km west of Georgia’s capital Tbilisi in the eastern part of the Trialeti Range, which is part of the Lesser Caucasus. It was a site of the celebrated victory won by the Georgian king David IV over the Seljuk armies on August 12, 1121. The battlefield extends for several kilometers and is covered by abundant subalipine meadows. Early in the 1990s, an impressive monument was erected at the site of the battle, consisting of dozens of massive swords pushed into the ground and posing as crosses, and colossal sculptures of dismembered bodies of warriors scattered in the meadows. The monument is located at 41º45'38 N, 44º30'29 E. The Didgori-1 ( ka, დიდგორი) is a Georgian-made armoured personnel carrier developed by the "Delta" research center of the Ministry of Defence and part of the Didgori-series APC family currently constructed in five baseline variants. Technical characteristics The vehicle is assembled on and around the chassis of US Ford Super Duty pickup trucks. It is equipped with FLIR Systems thermal and night vision imaging devices provided for front and rear view. Information from the cameras is displayed on monitors for the driver, the commander and the passenger section. The system is interlinked with a special navigation system GPS. The Didgori-II ( ka, დიდგორი-II) is an armoured multi-role and special operations vehicle produced by STC Delta. It was developed in 2009 alongside the Didgori-1 using the same internal features with some additional functions. The armoured personnel carrier is thought to provide transport, enhanced visibility and firepower support for infantry troops and Special Forces in various missions including reconnaissance and convoy protection. Specifications and mobility The Didgori is assembled on and around the chassis of US Ford Super Duty F-550 heavy duty pickup trucks with V8 Power Stroke Turbo Diesel engines and power assisted hydraulic steering. Didgori-3 ( ka, დიდგორი-3) is a Georgian 6×6 MRAP type armored personnel carrier developed by the State Scientific Technical Center "Delta". The Didgori-3 was first displayed during a military parade in 2012 and was proposed as patrol vehicle for deployments. Technical characteristics Didgori-3, like two previous Didgori Armoured Personnel Carrier and Didgori-2 is equipped with night/thermal imaging cameras and GPS navigation system. Information from the cameras are provided on three independent displays: one for the driver, one for the commander and one for the Passengers. This armored vehicle is based on a modified chassis of KrAZ-6322 truck chassis and is powered by a YaMZ-238D 300 hp turbocharged diesel engine.
