Didam (other)
Didam (locally, Diem) is a town in the eastern part of Netherlands in the region of "De Achterhoek", province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Montferland about 18 km east of Arnhem, which is the capital of the province, and about 11 km west from Doetinchem, which is the capital of the Achterhoek region. History People in Didam speak a dialect called "diems", and many people speak achterhoeks (which is the dialect of the region "Achterhoek") which is very similar to diems. These two dialects are part of the nedersaksies. Everard Ter Laak
Everard Ter Laak (; November 5, 1868 - May 5, 1931) was a Dutch Roman Catholic missionary and bishop who worked in China during the late Qing dynasty and early Republic of China. Biography Everard Ter Laak was born on November 5, 1868 in Didam, Montferland, Netherlands, the son of the Miller Jacobus Everardus Ter Laak (1824–1888) and his wife Maria Bernardina van der Grinten (1832–1886). On November 17, 1889, he entered the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On April 3, 1892, he was ordained a priest within the Congregation and went on mission to the Qing Empire. On June 21, 1906, Pope Pius X appointed him Apostolic Vicar of the Southern Kansu. In 1914 he was appointed titular bishop of Paroecopolis. Sint Martinus, Didam
Sint Martinus ( en, Saint Martin) is a tower mill in Didam, Gelderland, Netherlands which was built in 1855 and has been restored to working order. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument. History In 1854, Theodorus Kempers was given permission to build a corn and pearl barley mill at Didam. The mill was completed in 1855. In 1942, the sails were fitted with streamlined leading edges on the Van Bussel system. Later, two Ten Have sails were fitted. On 12 November 1964, the mill caught fire. It was subsequently restored. In 1973, the mill stopped working because a pair of sails were loose in the canister of the windshaft. The mill was returned to working order in 1977. The work was carried out by millwright Groot Wesseldijk of Laren, North Holland. By 1997, the mill was again in need of restoration, and a planning application was made for the replacement of the sails. It was not until 2007 that the mill was restored to working order. Geert Hendrik Hammink (born 12 July 1969) is a Dutch former basketball player and current coach. He is the current head coach of the Skyliners Frankfurt of the German Basketball Bundesliga. He was selected by the Orlando Magic in the first round (26th overall) of the 1993 NBA Draft. Hammink played for the Magic and had a small stint with the Golden State Warriors in 3 NBA seasons. Ernstus "Ernie" Wilhelmus Johannes Brandts (born 3 February 1956) is a Dutch football manager and former player. Playing career Club Born in Didam, he played for local club De Sprinkhanen before joining De Graafschap at 17. After three seasons he moved on to PSV with whom he won two Eredivisie league titles in 7 seasons. He later played for Roda JC, MVV and Belgian side Germinal Ekeren before returning to his first professional club De Graafschap. Theodorus "Theo" Henricus Maria Rasing (born 26 May 1953) is a Dutch professor of experimental physics at Radboud University Nijmegen. His expertise lies in the field of magneto-optics. He was a winner of the 2008 Spinoza Prize. Career Rasing was born on 26 May 1953 in Didam. In 1976 he obtained a cum laude degree in physics from Radboud University Nijmegen. J.J.M. (Jos) Som (Didam, 12 October 1951) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). Originally a teacher, he became an alderman and deputy Mayor of Didam. From 1994 until 1999 he was mayor of Gulpen, and from 1997 he was also acting mayor for the neighbouring municipality of Wittem. On 1 January 1999 these municipalities fused into the new municipality of Gulpen-Wittem, of which he was mayor until the end of 2000.
