Dick Oosting
Dick Oosting (born June 1946) is a Dutch human rights lawyer and activist. He headed Amnesty International's EU Office and was the CEO of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). Oosting was Chair of the Board of the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders, Martin Ennals Foundation. Work at Amnesty In the mid-1970s he coordinated Amnesty International’s first worldwide campaign against torture (an activity highlighted in Amnesty's Nobel Peace Prize citation in 1977). He then served five years as Amnesty's Deputy Secretary General and returned to the Netherlands to head its Dutch national section. From 1999 he spent eight years in Brussels leading Amnesty's EU office. Amnesty International (also referred to as Amnesty or AI) is an international non-governmental organization focused on human rights, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom. The organization says that it has more than ten million members and supporters around the world. The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is a pan-European think tank with offices in seven European capitals. Martin Ennals Award For Human Rights Defenders
The Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders, sometimes called "the Nobel Prize for human rights", is an annual prize for human rights defenders. It was created in 1993 to honour and protect individuals around the world who demonstrate exceptional courage in defending and promoting human rights. Its principal aim is to provide protection ("protective publicity") to human rights defenders who are at risk by focusing international media attention on their plight, mainly through online means and advocacy work.
