Dicastery For Culture And Education
The Dicastery for Culture and Education is an administrative unit of the Roman Curia. It began operations on 5 June 2022 as established by the apostolic constitution ''Praedicate evangelium'' promulgated on 19 March 2022. It was formed through the merger of two earlier bodies, the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Congregation for Catholic Education. At the time of the merger, each of these bodies was headed by a cardinal of retirement age: Gianfranco Ravasi as president of the Council for Culture and Giuseppe Versaldi as prefect of the Congregation for Education. Speculation that the new dicastery would be led by someone else, possibly even a lay person, proved partly correct when Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça was named prefect of the new dicastery in September 2022. The Pontifical Academy of Mary (, , PAMI) is an international pontifical organization tasked with promoting mariology. Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi, known as don Cesare (born 8 June 1965) is an Italian academic and Catholic prelate who was secretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, part of the Roman Curia, from September 2022 to March 2025, when he was appointed Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church. On 9 May 2025 pope Leo XIV confirmed him in this charge. He has been an archbishop since February 2024. Pope Paul VI (born Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini; 26 September 18976 August 1978) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 21 June 1963 until his death on 6 August 1978. The Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers () was a dicastery of the Roman Curia charged with promoting dialogue between the Catholic Church and non-believers. Its original designation as "Secretariat" was changed to "Pontifical Council" on 30 June 1988. The was merged into the Pontifical Council for Culture in 1993. The Pontifical Academy for Latin () is an organization established in 2012 to promote appreciation for the Latin language and culture. The Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas (PAST; ) is a pontifical academy established on 15 October 1879 by Pope Leo XIII. The academy is one of the pontifical academies housed along with the academies of science at Casina Pio IV in Vatican City, Rome. History The Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas was established on 15 October 1879 by Leo XIII, who approved its statutes with a brief of 9 May 1895. ( English: ''Preach the gospel'') is an apostolic constitution reforming the Roman Curia; it was published and promulgated on 19 March 2022 by Pope Francis, and the document took effect on 5 June 2022. The apostolic constitution was developed over nine years by the Council of Cardinals. It is the fifth time that a reform of the Roman Curia of this kind has occurred.
