Dianne Nelmes
Dianne Gwenllian Nelmes (born 6 March 1951) is a British former television executive and television producer, who created well-known ITV light entertainment television series. Early life She attended Holt County Girls' Grammar School (since September 1974 the comprehensive The Holt School) in Wokingham, where in 1970 she gained A-levels in Economics, English Literature, and History. She was the editor of the Newcastle University student newspaper from October to November 1972, where in 1973 she gained a degree in economics and politics. She was president of the Newcastle University Students' Union from 1973 to 1974. Career She started as a writer for the '' Newcastle Journal''. BBC She was with the BBC for four years from 1978 to 1983, with ''Look North'' at Newcastle. She joined Granada in 1983. Light entertainment encompasses a broad range of television and radio programming that includes comedies, variety shows, game shows, quiz shows and the like. In Great Britain In the early days of the BBC virtually all broadcast entertainment would be considered light by today's standards, as great pains were taken not to offend audiences—which is not to say that they always succeeded in this. Singers, magicians and comedians were drafted from the music hall circuit to fill the schedules. ITV Digital Channels Limited (formerly known as Granada Sky Broadcasting) is a wholly owned subsidiary of British broadcaster ITV plc. It manages all of the company's television channels with the exception of ITV, which is part of the entire network. Granada Television
ITV Granada, formerly known as Granada Television, is the ITV franchisee for the North West of England and Isle of Man. From 1956 to 1968 it broadcast to both the north west and Yorkshire but only on weekdays as ABC Weekend Television was its weekend counterpart. Granada's parent company Granada plc later bought several other regional ITV stations and, in 2004, merged with Carlton Communications to form ITV plc. Granada Television was particularly noted by critics for the distinctive northern and "social realism" character of many of its network programmes, as well as the high quality of its drama and documentaries. Charles Tremayne is a television executive and producer known for creating a number of TV series in the UK and America. In the UK he was best known for editing '' World In Action'' on ITV and for his involvement in the case of the wrongly-convicted Birmingham Six. In the US he either created or developed several series such as '' The First 48'', '' American Pickers'', '' Room Raiders,'' and ''Sinking Cities'' for PBS. He is also executive producer of several television movies and other scripted projects. He first came to America to run the joint venture between The New York Times and ITV Granada, winning a News and Documentary Emmy for a program for ''NOVA'' about bioterrorism. The Holt School
The Holt School is a secondary school located on the outskirts of Wokingham, Berkshire, England, on Holt Lane. It is a girls' school and currently teaches over 1,200 girls ranging from age 11–18. Boys are admitted to the sixth form. There are eight houses: Broderers, Clothworkers, Goldsmiths, Haberdashers, Lacemakers, Spinners, Tanners and Weavers. The school was founded in 1931, originally at Tudor House, and its first headmistress was G. M. Brown. It is a specialized language and science college and is in the top 100 highest achieving schools in GCSE, AS and A level exam results. The current co-headteachers are Anne Kennedy and Katie Pearce.
