Dianne Guise
Dianne Joy Guise (born 29 October 1952) is an Australian politician. She was a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2008, representing the district of Wanneroo. Born in Melbourne, Guise was formerly the President of the WA Council of State School Organisations. Guise was first elected to parliament at the 2001 state election, defeating sitting Liberal MP Iain McLean. Guise was re-elected at the 2005 election, defeating Liberal candidate Paul Miles. From 2001 to 2008, Guise served Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Chairman of Committees. Iain Donald Smith McLean (born 8 October 1983) is a Scottish international lawn bowler. Bowls career McLean won a bronze medal in the fours at the 2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch, with Alex Marshall, Paul Foster and Ronnie Duncan. In 2013, he won the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic pairs title with Robert Grant and he also won the gold medal at the 2015 World Cup Singles in Warilla, New South Wales, Australia and in 2014 he became the World Singles Champion of Champions defeating Fairus Jabal of Malaysia in the final. He is a two time winner of the Scottish National Bowls Championships in the singles (2013 and 2015) when bowling for Blackwood Victoria BC. In 2022, he competed in the men's singles and the men's triples at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. 2008 Western Australian State Election
The 2008 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 6 September 2008 to elect 59 members to the Legislative Assembly and 36 members to the Legislative Council. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party government, in power since the 2001 election and led since 25 January 2006 by Premier Alan Carpenter, was defeated by the centre-right Liberal Party opposition, led by Opposition Leader Colin Barnett since 6 August 2008. The election resulted in a hung parliament with no party gaining a majority. Labor was two seats short of a majority in the expanded legislature. Ultimately, the Liberals were able to form a coalition government with the WA Nationals, supported by three independents. While both parties agreed to National demands that at least 25 percent of mining proceeds go to regional projects, the Nationals ultimately went with the Liberals. Paul Terrance Miles (born 13 February 1963) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2017, representing Wanneroo. He won the seat after defeating sitting Labor MLA Dianne Guise. Miles was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Commerce in 2013 to 2016, in the Barnett Ministry. In the dying months of the Barnett Government he was made Minister for Local Government, Minister for Community Services, Minister for Seniors and Volunteering, and Minister for Youth in September 2016. Biography Miles was born in the United Kingdom to parents, Beryl and Alan Miles. They migrated to Perth, Australia in 1970. The Liberal Party of Australia (Western Australian Division), branded as Liberal Western Australia, is the division of the Liberal Party of Australia in Western Australia.
