Thomas Alan Stephenson
Thomas Alan Stephenson Royal Society, FRS (19 January 1898 – 3 April 1961) was a British naturalist and marine biology, marine biologist who specialised in sea anemones. Early life Thomas Alan Stephenson, who went by his middle name, was born on 19 January 1898 in Burnham-on-Sea in Surrey, England. He was the eldest of three born to Thomas Stephenson, a Wesleyan theology, Wesleyan Minister (Christianity), minister and amateur Botany, botanist, and Margaret Stephenson (née Fletcher); a brother and sister would follow. The first six years of Stephenson's life were spent in Richmond, London, Richmond, Surrey, where his father was a tutor at Richmond Theological College; his mother's father was the college's governor. These years, according to his obituary, "were the pleasantest in Alan Stephenson’s childhood". As Stephenson later recalled, "[w]e lived in the Governor’s well appointed house, and had the run of the large College grounds and kitchen-garden, so that we were bro ...

Diadumene Leucolena
''Diadumene leucolena'', commonly known as the white anemone or ghost anemone, is a species of sea anemone in the family Diadumenidae. It is an inconspicuous species found in the intertidal and subtidal areas of the northeastern Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the northern Pacific Ocean. ''Diadumene'', "diadem-bearer", referring to the crown of tentacles, is a female form intended to bring to mind the '' Diadumenos'', the renowned Greek sculpture of an athlete crowning himself with the victor's ribbon diadem. Description When fully extended, ''Diadumene leucolena'' has a long and slender column, being up to tall and wide. Both column and tentacles are a translucent pale pink or flesh-colour, the column sometimes having a faint green tinge near the top. The column appears to be smooth but close inspection shows irregularly arranged darker swellings. The tentacles closest to either end of the mouth have yellow bases. Distribution ''D. leucolena'' is found in the North Atla ...

Diadumene Lineata
''Diadumene lineata'', the orange-striped green sea anemone, has several morphotypes which have been described multiple times. Description This is a smaller species, measuring approximately 3.5 centimeters in diameter across its tentacles and 3 centimeters in height. Its central column is green-gray to brown color and smooth. The column, which houses the gastro vascular central cavity extends from the mouth to the attached base called the pedal disc. It does not always have vertical stripes, which can be orange or white. There are 50 to 100 slender and tapered tentacles which are able to retract completely into the column. They are commonly transparent and can be gray or light green with white flecks (Christine 2001). Many morphs occur for this species: ''Sagartia lineata'' (Verill, 1869 Hong Kong), ''Diadumene lineata'' (Verill 1870); ''Diaumene luciae'' (Stephenson, 1925); ''Haliplanella luciae'' (Hand, 1955); Properly named ''D. lineata'' (Hand 1989). Genus
Genus (; : genera ) is a taxonomic rank above species and below family (taxonomy), family as used in the biological classification of extant taxon, living and fossil organisms as well as Virus classification#ICTV classification, viruses. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. :E.g. ''Panthera leo'' (lion) and ''Panthera onca'' (jaguar) are two species within the genus ''Panthera''. ''Panthera'' is a genus within the family Felidae. The composition of a genus is determined by taxonomy (biology), taxonomists. The standards for genus classification are not strictly codified, so different authorities often produce different classifications for genera. There are some general practices used, however, including the idea that a newly defined genus should fulfill these three criteria to be descriptively useful: # monophyly – all descendants of an ancestral taxon are grouped together (i.e. Phylogeneti ...
