Diabolo (film)
Diabolo is a 1992 Ghanaian film that tells the story of a man who has the power to transform into a serpent. He uses this power to sexually assault and kill women, mostly sex workers. The character is played by Bob Smith Junior, subsequently popularly referred to as Diabolo Man or Snake Man. The film has been studied as an example of Pentacostal influence in Ghanaian film. Cinema of Ghana also known as the Ghana Film Industry nicknamed Ghallywood, began when early film making was first introduced to the British colony of Gold Coast (now Ghana) in 1923. At the time only affluent people could see the films, especially the colonial master of Gold Coast. In the 1950s, film making in Ghana began to increase. Cinemas were the primary venue for watching films until home video became more popular. The movie industry has no official name as yet since consultations and engagements with stakeholders has been ongoing when a petition was sent to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture which suspended the use of the name Black Star Films. Eddie Cofie (1959–2015) was a Ghanaian actor, president of the Ghana Actors Guild and also a pastor. He featured in many Ghanaian movies like Bob Smith's Diabolo, Dirty Tears Sinking Sands and A Northern Affair. Career In 1992, Coffie featured in many Ghanaian movies like Bob Smith's Diabolo, which he played the main role as ''the snake-pastor'' who turns into a strange creature devouring raw eggs and suffering from Hallucinations.
