''Les Diaboliques'' (, released as ''Diabolique'' in the United States and variously translated as ''The Devils'' or ''The Fiends'') is a 1955 French psychological horror thriller film co-written and directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, starring Simone Signoret, Véra Clouzot, Paul Meurisse and Charles Vanel. It is based on the 1952 novel ''She Who Was No More'' (''Celle qui n'était plus'') by Boileau-Narcejac, Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac. The story blends elements of thriller and Horror film, horror, with the plot focusing on a woman and her husband's mistress (lover), mistress who conspire to murder the man. It was the 10th highest-grossing film of the year in France, with a total of 3,674,380 admissions. The film also received the 1954 Louis Delluc Prize. Clouzot, after finishing ''The Wages of Fear'' (1953), optioned the screenplay rights, preventing Alfred Hitchcock from making the film. ''Diabolique'' is a 1996 American psychological thriller film directed by Jeremiah Chechik, starring Sharon Stone, Isabelle Adjani, Chazz Palminteri, and Kathy Bates. The plot follows the wife and mistress of an abusive schoolmaster who find themselves stalked by an unknown assailant after murdering the schoolmaster and disposing of his body. The film is a remake of the French film '' Les Diaboliques'' (1955) directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, which was based on the novel '' She Who Was No More'' () by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac. Don Roos adapted the screenplay while Clouzot received credit for his original screenplay that he had collaborated on with others. Diabolique (band)
Diabolique was a Swedish pop rock band formed in 1995 after the dissolution of ''Liers in Wait''. The group is heavily influenced by The Sisters of Mercy, Black Sabbath, and Fields of the Nephilim, and in sound are similar to the styles of Charon, Tiamat, Moonspell, and Type O Negative. The band's current and former line-up has consisted of many musicians from progenital Gothenburg melodic death metal bands; Kristian Wåhlin, Johan Osterberg, and Alf Svensson were in Grotesque (a predecessor of At the Gates, who Alf would eventually join); and Daniel Svensson briefly played drums with the group before going on to major success with In Flames.
