Dhubri is a city and the administrative centre of Dhubri district in the Indian state of Assam. It is an old town on the bank of the Brahmaputra River, with historical significance. In 1883, the town was first constituted as a municipal board under the British regime. It is situated about west from Dispur, the state capital of Assam. The town is also an important commercial centre and had a busy river port, particularly for jute. Dhubri is called the "Land of Rivers" as it is covered on three sides by the Brahmaputra and Gangadhar rivers. History Until 1874, Dhubri was mostly ruled by Koch Rajbongshi kings. Literacy In India
Literacy in India is a key for social-economic progress. The 2011 census, indicated a 2001–2011 literacy growth of 9.2%, which is slower than the growth seen during the previous decade. At the then-current rate of progress in 1990, one study projected that universal literacy might be reached by 2060. The census of India pegged the average literacy rate as 73% in 2011 while National Statistical Commission surveyed literacy to be 80.6% in 2017–18. Goalpara
Goalpara ) is a city and the district headquarters of Goalpara district, Assam, India. It is situated to the west of Guwahati. Etymology The name Goalpara is said to have originated from the word "Gwaltippika" meaning Guwali village, or "the village of the milk men" (Yadav). In local dialect, "para" means village. Geography Goalpara is located on the bank of the river Brahmaputra. It has an average elevation of 35 metres (114 feet). Assam Province
Assam Province was a province of British India, created in 1912 by the partition of the Eastern Bengal and Assam Province. Its capital was in Shillong. Koch Rajbongshi
The Rajbanshi, also Rajbongshi and Koch-Rajbongshi, are peoples from Western Assam, North Bengal, eastern Bihar, Terai region of eastern Nepal, Rangpur division of North Bangladesh and Bhutan who have in the past sought an association with the Koch dynasty. Koch-Rajbanshi people speak Kamatapuri, an Indo-Aryan language, likely due to language shift, and in the past they might have spoken Tibeto-Burman languages. The community is categorised as OBC in Assam and Bihar, and SC in West Bengal. In Nepal they are considered part of the Plains Janjati. In Bangladesh the community is classified as Plains ethnic group under 'Barman'. They are the largest Scheduled Caste community of West Bengal. Chilarai Dhubri
Sukladhwaja (popularly known as Bir Chilarai; 1510–1571 AD) was the 3rd son of Biswa Singha, founder of the Koch Dynasty in the Kamata Kingdom and younger brother of Nara Narayan, the second king of the Koch dynasty of the Kamata kingdom in the 16th century. He was Nara Narayan's commander-in-chief and finance minister ''(Dewan)'' of the kingdom. He got his name Chilarai because, as a general, he executed troop movements that were as fast as a ''chila'' ( kite/Eagle). Military career Confrontation with Manipur Historical sources suggests that King Naranarayan and Chilarai have defeated the Ahoms.
