1985 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The 8th Assam Legislative Assembly election was held in two phases in 1985 to elect members from 126 constituencies in Assam, India. The Nellie massacre and Khoirabari massacre were some cases of extreme violence. The unrest officially ended on 15 August 1985, following the Assam Accord, which was signed by leaders of AASU-AAGSP and the Government of India. During six years of the movement, a reported 855-860 deaths were reported. The agitation leaders formed a political party, Asom Gana Parishad post-election and Prafulla Kumar Mahanta became Chief Minister of Assam. Ashok Singhal
Ashok Singhal (27 September 1926 – 17 November 2015) was the international working president of the Hindu organisation Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) for over 20 years and in charge of the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He was replaced in the Vishva Hindu Parishad in December 2011 following a long bout of diminishing physical health. Succeeded by Praveen Togadia, Singhal suffered ill-health but was working till a month before his death. Life Singhal was born in Agra. 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election was the 15th quinquennial State legislative assemblies of India, legislative assembly election held in the Indian state of Assam from March 27 to April 6 in three phases, to elect 126 Member of the Legislative Assembly (India), MLAs to the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly. 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The Assam Legislative Assembly Election of 2016 was held in two phases, on 4 and 11 April 2016, to elect members of the 126 constituencies in Assam, a state in North-eastern India. The overall voter turnout was 84.72%, which set a new record for Assam. The turnout was an increase from the 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly election, 2011 Assembly election figure of 75%. Habul Chakraborty (1 February 1960 – 16 February 2020) was an Indian businessman and politician from Assam belonging to Indian National Congress. Bhimananda Tanti (born ) is an Indian politician from the state of Assam. He is a former Member of Assam Legislative Assembly and a former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. Early life and education Tanti is the son of the late Othara Tanti. He has a B.A from Gauhati University, Darrang college Tezpur in 1972. Political career Tanti was the Indian National Congress candidate for the Rangapara constituency in 1996. He received 32555 votes, 47.67% of the total vote. He defeated his nearest opponent by 14195 votes and became Member of Assam Legislative Assembly for Rangapara, succeeding Golok Rabjanshi. 2001 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly were held in 2001 to elect members of 114 constituencies in Assam, India. The Indian National Congress won the popular vote and a majority of seats and Tarun Gogoi was appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam. The number of constituencies was set as 126, by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. After the elections, the sitting MP for Kaliabor. Tarun Gogoi became the chief minister. His brother, Dip Gogoi, the winner from the Titabar constituency, resigned from his seat so that Tarun could win the seat in a by-election.
