Kaashidhoo (Kaafu Atoll)
Kaashidhoo (Dhivehi: ކާށިދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of Kaafu Atoll. History Kashidhoo archaeological site is one of the most historically significant on the island. It is the largest pre-Islamic remnant uncovered on Kaashidhoo; excavations have uncovered parts of a Buddhist Monastery that existed in the 7th and 8th Centuries AD. The project focuses on conserving the area that has already been excavated, helping to protect the site from erosion and weathering. Since the site is built almost entirely of coral stone, the conservation work is essential to making sure that generations of Maldivians can continue to view this important site, US Embassy statement expressed. Geography The island is north of the country's capital, Malé. Kaashidhoo is included in the Malé Atoll. However, it is an atoll by itself geographically. Mariyam Ashfa
Mariyam Ashfa (born 25 December 1982) is a Maldivian singer and actress. Career Since a very early age, Ashfa participated in Interschool Singing Competition where she received several accolades for the same. She made her career debut with the song "Dhan Dhan Dhan" from the album ''Rovvaanulaa'' (2006). A duet with Mohamed Abdul Ghanee, the song topped several charts upon release and her talent was recognized by the music composers. Even though "Dhan Dhan Dhan" was released earlier, her first recorded song was "Vindhaa Hithaa Jaanaa", another duet with Ghanee. Soon after, she rendered several songs and became a prominent name in the industry. Ashfa received her first Gaumee Film Award nomination for Best Female Playback Singer with the song "Niuma" from the film ''Niuma'' (2010). The Maldives Film Awards are presented by Maldives Film Association to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Maldivian film industry. The ceremony had been sponsored by various private organizations in the past including Enchanteur and Ilsha. A live ceremony was broadcast to television audiences. History The Maldives Film Awards were first introduced in 2011. In the first awards function, held on 2 July 2011, awards were given to films released in 2008 and 2009; picked from 5th Gaumee Film Awards held in 2007. The association attempted to host the fourth edition of the award in 2016, but it was cancelled following several delays. Rafiyath Rameeza
Rafiyath Rameeza (23 March 1976) is a Maldivian singer. Early life Rafiyath Rameeza was born and raised in the "Rameez family" where several artists including Ali Rameez and Ibrahim Rameez were brought up and "ruled" the music industry. At the age of 12, while studying at Aminiya School, she competed in the Television Maldives Interschool Singing Competition and continued to participate in the same competition for more years. In 1993, at the age of seventeen, while studying at Malé English School, Rameeza performed the song "Kaakuhey Mithaahuree" in the competition which fetched the award for best performer from her age category and was ranked in the second place of the competition. Mohamed Abdul Ghanee (born 15 April 1978), commonly known as Theyravaa is a Maldivian singer and songwriter. Early life and career Born to a musical family, Ghanee had no interest in music even when his siblings spend their time in jamming and singing. While studying at Madhrasathul Ifthithaah, he participated in the Inter-house singing competition, on a request by his elder brother. His performance was well noted by judges and received several prizes. The success was followed by his next performance, the song "Theyravaa" which caught the attention of a member from the local music band Zero Degree Atoll, who insisted him to perform a different version of the song in the ''Fannaanunge Muzikee Eid Show'' (1992). The version, which marks his first break in the industry, was loved by the audience and he was considered "a promising singer". Dhaandhoo, Adam initiated his career as a musician by joining a local band to take part in some of the occasional stage shows held in his island and atoll. Hussain Sobah (11 November 1972) is a Maldivian film actor, music composer and playback singer. Career In 1995, Sobah featured in Mohamed Shiyaz's ''Dhushman'' alongside Mariyam Nisha, Aminath Rasheedha and Hamid Ali in pivotal roles. In the film, he plays the character Riyaz, an underprivileged young man who loses his girlfriend over social discrimination. Hamid Ali's ''Badhal'' was released in 1996, in which he starred alongside Ali, Niuma Mohamed and Waleedha Waleed as a twin; a mentally challenged young man with an immature attitude. Ibrahim Zaid Ali
Ibrahim Zaid Ali (born 15 April 1978), commonly known as Kuda Ibbe is a Maldivian singer and music composer. Early life and career Since childhood, Ali had been listening to all genres of songs from Bollywood classical to hip-hop to heavy metal music. At the age of seven, Ali fabricated music equipment including guitar and drum using wood, plywood and tin, where he used these self-made instruments to perform songs in the football stadium. His talent was recognized by a band member who visited his island for a show where this member gifted him with a real guitar. In 1997, during his vacation, Ali visited Male' where one of his family members, Ahmed Nihan, a music performer back then, introduced him to the world of The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Guns N' Roses.
