Dhaalu Atoll
Dhaalu Atoll (also known as Southern Nilandhe Atoll or , ) is one of the atolls of the Maldives. It corresponds to the natural atoll of the same name. Geography Dhaalu Atoll stretches 23 km (14 mi) from east to west, and 38 km (24 mi) north to south. Out of a total of 56 islands in the atoll, seven of the islands are inhabited, with a total population of around 6694. The capital island is Kudahuvadhoo, located at the atoll's southern tip. Hulhudheli and Rinbudhoo (Rimbudu) islands, located to the west of the atoll, are islands traditionally renowned for the skill of their jewellers. The formerly inhabited island of Gemendhoo on the eastern fringe of the atoll is surrounded by a long line of 11 uninhabited islands. Rinbudhoo, Jewellers island (Dhivehi: ރިނބުދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of Dhaalu Atoll. Jobs The people of Rinbudhoo are among the most skilled silver and goldsmiths in the Maldives. Bandidhoo
Ban'didhoo (Dhivehi: ބަނޑިދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of Dhaalu Atoll. History Like other islands, Ban'didhoo was impacted by the 2004 tsunami with several casualties and massive infrastructure damage. However, the island has managed a full, albeit slow, recovery. Geography The island is south of the country's capital, Malé. Demography Economy The commerce of the island is centered around their famous fleet of fishing boats (approx: 25). The Maldive Islands are formed by 20 natural atolls, along with a few islands and isolated reefs today which form a pattern stretching from 7 degrees 10′ North to 0 degrees 45′ South.
