Alfredo Deza Ganoza (born 24 August 1979) is a former Peruvian athlete specializing in the high jump. He was born in Lobitos, Talara, Piura. He is best known for winning gold at the 1998 World Junior Championships becoming the country's first and so far only World Junior Championships medalist. Diego de Deza y Tavera (1444 – 9 June 1523) was a theologian and inquisitor of Spain. He was one of the more notable figures in the Spanish Inquisition, and succeeded Tomás de Torquemada to the post of Grand Inquisitor. Early life Deza was born in Toro, Zamora and entered the Dominican Order at a young age. He held a number of ecclesiastical posts, and also tutored Prince Juan de Aragón y Castilla, also known as John, Prince of Asturias, the only surviving son of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. He was fundamental in granting navigator Christopher Columbus access to Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. Michel Marie Deza (27 April 1939. – 23 November 2016) was a Soviet and French mathematician, specializing in combinatorics, discrete geometry and graph theory. He was the retired director of research at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the vice president of the European Academy of Sciences, a research professor at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and one of the three founding editors-in-chief of the European Journal of Combinatorics. Biography Background Pedro de Deza was born in Seville on 26 March 1520, the son of Antonio de Deza and Beatriz de Portugal. He was the nephew of Diego Deza, Archbishop of Seville and Grand Inquisitor of Spain. He studied Latin under Juan Ulloa Pereira before attending the '' Colegio Viejo de San Bartolomé'' at the University of Salamanca, where he studied law.
