The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly or the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha is the unicameral state legislature of Madhya Pradesh state in India. It is housed in the ''Vidhan Bhavan'', a building located at the center of the Capital Complex, in the Arera Hill locality of Bhopal, the capital of the state. The term of the assembly is five years, unless it is dissolved early. Since 2001, it has had 230 members who are directly elected, from single-seat constituencies. Since the independence of India, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) have been given reservation in India, reservation status, guaranteeing political representation, and the Constitution lays down the general principles of positive discrimination for SCs and STs.
