Dev (mythology)
Div or dev (Classical Persian: ; ) (with the broader meaning of demons or fiends) are monstrous creatures within Middle Eastern lore, and probably Persian origin. Their origin may lie in the Vedic deities (devas) who were later demonized in the Persian religion (see ''daeva''). Most of their images, when disseminated into the Islamic world, including Armenia, Turkic countries and Albania, assimilated with the demons and ogres of ancestral beliefs. As such they have been adapted according to the beliefs of Islamic concepts of otherworldly entities. Muslim authors often identified them with the ifrit (demons) and ''shayatin'' (devils) of their own belief-system. In Sufism they became symbols of human vices and evil urges. In folklore and legends, they are often described as having a body like that of a human, only of gigantic size, with two horns upon their heads and teeth like the tusks of a boar. Powerful, cruel and cold-hearted, they have a particular relish for the taste of ...

DEVS is a timed event system. History DEVS is a formalism for modeling and analysis of discrete event systems (DESs). The DEVS formalism was invented by Bernard P. Zeigler, who is emeritus professor at the University of Arizona. DEVS was introduced to the public in Zeigler's first book, ''Theory of Modeling and Simulation'' in 1976, while Zeigler was an associate professor at University of Michigan. In Unix-like operating systems, a device file, device node, or special file is an interface to a device driver that appears in a file system as if it were an ordinary file. There are also special files in DOS, OS/2, and Windows. These special files allow an application program to interact with a device by using its device driver via standard input/output system calls. Using standard system calls simplifies many programming tasks, and leads to consistent user-space I/O mechanisms regardless of device features and functions. Overview Device files usually provide simple interfaces to standard devices (such as printers and serial ports), but can also be used to access specific unique resources on those devices, such as disk partitions. Additionally, device files are useful for accessing system resources that have no connection with any actual device, such as data sinks and random number generators. There are two general kinds of device files in Unix-like operating systems, kno ...
