The German Police Trade Union (german: Deutsche Polizeigewerkschaft, DPolG) is a trade union in Germany. Representing 94,000 police employees, it is the second largest union for police employees in Germany, following the Gewerkschaft der Polizei (GdP). It is affiliated with the German Civil Service Federation (', DBB). Since 2007, the union has been headed by Rainer Wendt, who was reelected in 2011, and – receiving more than 98% of member votes – in 2015. Rainer Wendt
Rainer Wendt (born 29 November 1956 in Duisburg) is a German former policeman ( Schutzpolizei) and national populist. Since 2007 he is the Federal Chairman of the German Police Union (DPolG). The DPolG is one of the two German police unions. Left-of-center daily tagezeitung characterized Wendt as an effective populist notorious for law and order catchphrases. In the first 48 hours following the 2015 Paris terror attacks, Wendt gave 22 interviews. In 2016 he published a book titled ''Deutschland in Gefahr'' ("Germany in danger"). In 2017 a TV report uncovered how Wendt had been violating the law by accepting two simultaneous salaries, and not declaring additional jobs. The Gewerkschaft der Polizei (GdP; en, Trade Union of the Police) is a trade union in Germany. It represents 181,000 police employees, and is one of eight industrial affiliations of the German Confederation of Trade Unions (DGB). Trade unions in Germany have a history reaching back to the German revolution in 1848, and still play an important role in the German economy and society. The most important labor organization is the German Confederation of Trade Unions (', or ''DGB''), which is the umbrella association of eight single trade unions for individual economic sectors, representing more than 6 million people . The largest single trade union is the IG Metall, which organizes about 2.3 million members in metal (including automobile and machine building), electronics, steel, textile, wood and synthetics industries.
