The Deutsche Baseball Liga (English: ''German Baseball League'') or DBL is the professional elite competition for baseball in Germany. Until 2024, the league was called Baseball-Bundesliga. The winner is awarded the German championship. Like most European sports leagues, the league uses a system of promotion and relegation and currently consists of eleven teams in two divisions, with each team playing six games against each other team in the division. The league is regulated by the German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV). History A precursor to the Baseball-Bundesliga was founded between 1951, with the Stuttgart Phillies winning the inaugural national championship. However, the league disbanded following the 1970 season, leaving Germany without a national league for 11 years. The Baseball-Bundesliga, in its current incarnation, was established in 1982. Baseball- und Softballclub Bonn Capitals e.V., commonly referred to as Bonn Capitals, is a Baseball in Germany, German baseball and softball club from Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, founded on November 8, 1989. Its first men's team has been competing in the Deutsche Baseball Liga, DBL (German Baseball League, formerly the Baseball Bundesliga) since 1994 and currently plays in its northern division, the Bundesliga Nord, after initially playing in the southern division until 1996. The women's softball team was promoted to the northern division of the Softball Bundesliga in 2018. The Capitals have won the northern division championship ten times, most recently in 2024, and advanced to the finals of the Bundesliga play-offs eight times, winning thrice (in 2018, 2022, and 2024). Baseballclub Hamburg Stealers e.V., commonly referred to as Hamburg Stealers, is a German baseball team based in Hamburg. The Stealers compete in the Baseball-Bundesliga as a member of the Bundesliga Nord. Established in 1985, the team has won the Baseball-Bundesliga once in 2000. The Stealers play their home games at Ballpark Langenhorst. History The Hamburg Stealers were founded in 1985 as the Lokstedt Stealers and participated for the first time in the Baseball-Bundesliga in 1991. In 1994, the team reached the final for the first time, but lost against the Mannheim Tornados. In 1996, the Stealers almost had a perfect season, finishing with a 27–1 record; in the playoffs, the team lost in semi-finals against the Mannheim Tornados. In 2000 the club had its best season.
