Detroit drill is a subgenre of drill music, centered in Detroit, that began as a derivative of the drill music scene in Chicago and New York City and later became a derivative of UK drill with its 808 percussion and sliding notes by producers from the UK drill scene. Detroit drill emerged around 2019 with the single "MWBL" by 42 Dugg and Tee Grizzley. It was made popular in the mainstream with the 2021 single "4 Da Gang" by 42 Dugg. Drill Music
Drill music, also known as drill rap or simply drill, is a subgenre of hip-hop music that originated in Chicago in the early 2010s. It is sonically similar to the trap music subgenre and lyrically similar to the gangsta rap subgenre. Drill lyricism is noted for its ominous, confrontational nature, often including references to gang rivalries and various incidents, sometimes murder, although the subgenre is thematically broader. Drill artists often address authentic, real-life conflicts, at times incorporating artistic expressions such as bravado, taunting or mockery. Early drill artists are typically noted for their associations with crime in Chicago, especially with the Black Disciples and Gangster Disciples. Dion Marquise Hayes (born November 25, 1994), known professionally as 42 Dugg, is an American rapper and songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. He signed with Yo Gotti and Lil Baby's respective labels, Collective Music Group (CMG) and Glass Window Entertainment (previously known as 4PF), through a joint venture with Interscope Records in 2019. Ghettotech (also known as Detroit club) is a genre of electronic music originating from Detroit. It combines elements of Chicago's ghetto house with electro, Detroit techno, and Miami bass. Overview Former Detroit music journalist for the ''Detroit Metro Times'', Hobey Echlin describes ghettotech as a genre that combines "techno's fast beats with rap's call-and-response." Brooklyn drill is a regional subgenre of drill music, which is a subgenre of hip-hop music. Dallas Antoino Asberry (born August 28, 2001), better known by his stage name Teejayx6, is an American rapper. After emerging in the Detroit hip hop scene, he gained recognition for his subject matter of scamming, identity theft and credit card fraud with his 2019 song "Dark Web".
