Desire (group)
RTC is a New Zealand record label which licensed recordings from overseas Independent labels in the United States and in the United Kingdom. Background The label was started in the late 1970s by John McCready, Brian Pitts, and Warwick Woodward. While still a fledgling indie distributor, they had Kama Fitzgerald in their employ who had previously worked for PolyGram marketing manager Stuart Rubin. In 1980, it was reported by Phil Gifford in the October 11 issue of ''Billboard Magazine, Billboard'' that as an independent NZ label they had made a first. With the artists on their label having both an album and single at no 1 on the NZ charts, it was the first time an Independent label in New Zealand had achieved this. Kevin Blackatini And The Frigids
Kevin Black (1943–18 February 2013), known professionally as Blackie, was a New Zealand radio broadcaster. A former breakfast host on Auckland's Radio Hauraki, he was once the highest-paid private radio DJ in New Zealand. Black left St. Patrick's College, Wellington at the age of 15, and was a seaman with the British Merchant Navy, before moving into radio. Black died suddenly on 18 February 2013 after suffering a suspected heart attack at his home in Remuera, Auckland, just a few days short of his 70th birthday. His last on-air role was at the 60s and 70s radio station Solid Gold, where he worked from 1997 until his retirement in 2009. UB40 are an English reggae band, formed in December 1978 in Birmingham, England. The band has had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart and has also achieved considerable international success. They have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times and were nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group in 1984. Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band that formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978. The band was one of the defining punk bands during its initial eight-year run. Joy Division
Joy Division were an English Rock music, rock band formed in Salford in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist, guitarist and lyricist Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris (musician), Stephen Morris. Sumner and Hook formed the band after attending a June 1976 Sex Pistols concert. Iain Matthews (born Ian Matthews MacDonald, 16 June 1946) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. He was an original member of the British folk rock band Fairport Convention from 1967 to 1969 before leaving to form his own band, Matthews Southern Comfort, which had a UK number one in 1970 with their cover of Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock". In 1979, his recording of Terence Boylan's "Shake It" reached No. 13 on the US charts. Born in Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire, Matthews was known in the 1960s as Ian MacDonald. Terrorways, not to be confused with Punk bands The Tearaways from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, or from Hertfordshire, England, were a New Zealand punk rock band from Auckland, who were big on the local punk scene. They are also remembered for their songs "She's a Mod" and "Never Been to Borstal". Background The group which played at the Zwines club was a favourite of Boot Boys in Auckland. At the end of 1978, drummer Kerry Buchanan was replaced by Gary Hunt who had come from Gary Havoc & The Hurricanes. The original band called it a day and their final performance was on 1 December 1979. In 1980, the group got together to play a gig at the XS Café.
