Desire (2002 Film)
''Desire'' (), also known as ''Beyond Desire'', is a 2002 Spanish romantic drama film directed by Gerardo Vera from a screenplay by Ángeles Caso which stars Leonor Watling and Leonardo Sbaraglia. Plot Set in Madrid in 1945, during the Francoist dictatorship, the plot follows the impossible romance between Elvira and Pablo. Elvira is a humble woman with allegiances to those vanquished in the Spanish Civil War (her father shot dead by the fascists and her husband Julio imprisoned) living with her sister Raquel and her mother. Pablo is an Argentine businessman of German descent and Nazi allegiances who is helping Nazis to flee to Argentina. Cast Production The screenplay was penned by novel screenwriter Ángeles Caso. Andrés Vicente Gómez
Andrés Vicente Gómez (born 16 September 1943 in Madrid) is a Spanish film producer, head of Lolafilms, with more than 100 films to his credit. Career Gómez is the winner of an Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language film for ''Belle Époque''. Together with the prizes won at festivals like Berlin, Venice, Montreal and San Sebastian, Gomez´s near annual presence at the Spanish Goya Film Awards make him the Spanish producer with most national and international awards to his name. Ángel Fernández-Santos (1934–2004) was a Spanish film critic and screenwriter. Born in Los Cerralbos, province of Toledo, in 1934, he was the younger brother of Marxist philosopher . He studied for a brief spell at the in the early 1960s. As a committed anti-Francoist, he was expelled from the Escuela Oficial de Cine because of his left-wing positions. He went on to have an extensive career as a film critic, writing for ''Nuestro cine'' (1964–1971), ''Cinemanía'', '' Diario 16'', and ''El País'', where he worked from 1982 until his death. He also co-penned the screenplays of '' The Spirit of the Beehive'' (reputed to be among the best Spanish films ever) and also screenplays of films directed by Escuela Oficial de Cine acquaintance Francisco Regueiro.
