Desert Hero
Desert Hero is a British racehorse. He is owned by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. He was born in 2020 and was bred by Queen Elizabeth II. In 2023, he won the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. Career Desert Hero was foaled on 29 January 2020. He was bred by Queen Elizabeth II as part of her breeding programmes. His sire was the former Epsom Derby winner Sea the Stars. He was formerly owned by the Queen until her death in 2022, when he was inherited by King Charles III. Desert Hero started racing in 2022, winning his debut race at the Novice Stakes at Haydock Park Racecourse. He also won the Novice Stakes at Redcar Racecourse. in his first race of 2023, Desert Hero finished outside of the top 5. His next race came at Royal Ascot whereby his trainer William Haggas had aimed for at least one of the King's horses to win as the King was attending all five days. Sea The Stars (foaled 6 April 2006) is a retired champion Irish Thoroughbred racehorse regarded as one of the greatest racehorses of all time. He won the 2000 Guineas, the Derby, the Eclipse Stakes – the first colt to accomplish this treble since 1989 champion Nashwan – the International Stakes, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in the same year. Sea The Stars is also a successful sire. His progeny have won classic races including the Derby, Irish Derby, and the Oak Breeding Bred by Sunderland Holdings Ltd, the breeding operation of the Tsui family, Sea the Stars is a half brother to Epsom Derby winner Galileo, both being sons of Arc winner Urban Sea. Tom Marquand
Tom Marquand (born 30 March 1998) is a British jockey who competes in flat racing. Background Marquand spent his childhood near Cheltenham and, although not from a racing background, grew up around horses. After pony racing and riding out for local trainers, he joined the Wiltshire yard of trainer Richard Hannon Jr., Richard Hannon as an apprentice at the age of 16. Career Marquand rode his first winner in 2014 and was British flat racing Champion Apprentice, champion apprentice jockey in 2015. That year he reached the finals of the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. On 7 September 2017 he rode his first Group races, Group race winner (40/1 outsider Anna Nerium in the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury Racecourse, Salisbury).
