Derrick Edward de Vere Kennedy (5 June 1904 in Dublin, Ireland – 27 June 1976 in County Dublin) was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler, he played once for the Ireland cricket team, a first-class match against Scotland in July 1924. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Founded in 1878, Northamptonshire (Northants) held minor status at first but was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship during the 1890s. Dublin University Cricket Club is a cricket team in Ireland. There is evidence of cricket being played at the University before 1820 but the first record of a club dates from 1835. They currently play in the Leinster Senior League, and in the past had first-class status, and played against several sides that were touring England, including the Australians (twice), South Africans (three times) and West Indians (as late as 1923). History Their first first-class matches came in 1895 when they played home and away matches against Cambridge University, also playing at home against the MCC and away against Leicestershire. They would not play first-class cricket again until 1922 when they played Essex and four times against Northamptonshire between 1924 and 1926. Bowling, in cricket, is the action of propelling the ball toward the wicket defended by a batter. A player skilled at bowling is called a ''bowler''; a bowler who is also a competent batter is known as an all-rounder. Johnstown ( gle, Baile Eoin) is a small area of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. Once part of the grounds of Johnstown House, it is now primarily an estate of semi-detached houses and detached houses built during the 1960s by private developers and apartment blocks built in the last few years due to a heavy demand for housing. In cricket, batting is the act or skill of hitting the ball with a bat to score runs and prevent the loss of one's wicket.
