Deron Johnson (musician)
Deron Johnson is an American jazz keyboardist. Beginning at the age of sixteen, Johnson became hooked on jazz music and attended California State University, Long Beach where he continued his pursuit with private lessons from Billy Childs. In 1991, after touring with pop idol Paula Abdul, Johnson was discovered by the trumpeter Miles Davis. Johnson completed three European tours and two American tours with Davis before he died, and recorded the keyboards on his last CD ''Doo-Bop'' (1992). Johnson then toured extensively and recorded with jazz bassist Stanley Clarke and alto saxophonist David Sanborn. In 1996, Johnson began to focus on original projects, along with more touring and more recordings with artists including Alanis Morissette, Boz Scaggs, and Seal. Johnson has continued to write and record for television and began recording his first solo album ''Learning to Crawl.'' ''Tutu'' is an album by jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, released in 1986 by Warner Bros. Records. The album is Miles Davis' tribute to Archbishop Desmond Tutu who was a human rights and anti-apartheid activist. It was recorded primarily at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Clinton Recording in New York, except the song "Backyard Ritual", which was recorded at Le Gonks in West Hollywood. Davis received the 1986 Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Soloist Grammy Award for his performance on the album. Background Originally some tracks were planned as a collaboration with Prince. Prince later pulled out for undisclosed reasons, although the two remained firm friends and later collaborated on "Can I Play With U" as well. Howard Shore
Howard Leslie Shore (born October 18, 1946) is a Canadian composer, conductor and orchestrator noted for his film scores. He has composed the scores for over 80 films, most notably the scores for ''The Lord of the Rings'' and '' The Hobbit'' film trilogies. He won three Academy Awards for his work on ''The Lord of the Rings'', with one being for the song " Into the West", an award he shared with Eurythmics lead vocalist Annie Lennox and writer/producer Fran Walsh, who wrote the lyrics. Gerald Alston (born November 8, 1951) is an American soul/R&B singer, and the lead singer of the Manhattans. Between late 1970 and 1988, the group had 25 top 40 R&B and 12 Hot 100 hit singles. Fender Rhodes
The Rhodes piano (also known as the Fender Rhodes piano) is an electric piano invented by Harold Rhodes, which became popular in the 1970s. Like a conventional piano, the Rhodes generates sound with keys and hammers, but instead of strings, the hammers strike thin metal tines, which vibrate next to an electromagnetic pickup. The signal is then sent through a cable to an external keyboard amplifier and speaker. The instrument evolved from Rhodes's attempt to manufacture pianos while teaching recovering soldiers during World War II. Development continued after the war and into the following decade. George Nathaniel Howard Jr. (September 15, 1956 – March 20, 1998) was an American smooth jazz saxophonist active in the 1980s and 1990s. He released a total of fifteen albums under Palo Alto Records, MCA Records and GRP Records. Biography Early life Howard was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was only six years old when he began taking music lessons at school on clarinet and bassoon. Karl Denson (born December 27, 1956) is an American funk and jazz saxophonist, flutist and vocalist from Santa Ana, California. He plays with The Rolling Stones, and leads his own group, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe (KDTU). He co-founded The Greyboy Allstars (GBA), and continues to tour with both KDTU and GBA as well as The Rolling Stones. Formerly, Denson was a member of Lenny Kravitz's band and he has recorded with artists including Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, Slightly Stoopid, Blind Boys of Alabama, Blackalicious, Stanton Moore, and Jon Foreman of the band Switchfoot.
