Dermot Bailey
Dermot Bailey (born 18 February 1994) is a British professional wheelchair tennis player. He was a semifinalist in the 2019 Queen's Club Championships – Wheelchair Singles and a quarterfinalist in the 2021 Queen's Club Championships – Wheelchair Singles. He competed in wheelchair tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Life Bailey was diagnosed with Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease and took up wheelchair tennis aged 8. He worked as a financial analyst at Kettering General Hospital but left to focus on tennis. Kettering
Kettering is a market and industrial town in North Northamptonshire, England. It is located north of London and north-east of Northampton, west of the River Ise, a tributary of the River Nene. Wheelchair tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan took place at the Ariake Tennis Park from 27 August to 4 September 2021. Legg–Calvé–Perthes Disease
Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease (LCPD) is a childhood hip disorder initiated by a disruption of blood flow to the head of the femur. Due to the lack of blood flow, the bone dies (osteonecrosis or avascular necrosis) and stops growing. Over time, healing occurs by new blood vessels infiltrating the dead bone and removing the necrotic bone which leads to a loss of bone mass and a weakening of the femoral head. The condition is most commonly found in children between the ages of 4 and 8, but it can occur in children between the ages of 2 and 15. It can produce a permanent deformity of the femoral head, which increases the risk of developing osteoarthritis in adults. Perthes is a form of osteochondritis which affects only the hip. Bilateral Perthes, which means both hips are affected, should always be investigated to rule out multiple epiphyseal dysplasia.
