Derek Whitson
Derek Whitson (born 21 June 1989) is a Canadian ice sledge hockey player. Whitson was born in Chatham, Ontario in 1989, with cerebral palsy. He joined the Canadian Sledge Hockey Team in 2007 after playing sledge hockey in the Windsor Ice Bullets sledge hockey program. He was a member of the Canadian sledge hockey team that won the silver medal at the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge, as well as the one that competed in the 2010 Winter Paralympics. He was also a member of team who won the gold medal in the 2013 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championships in Korea. Whitson also is a player of football 7-a-side, in which he won a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro. He is also an avid golfer and artist, in which he has donated pieces of his art to art auctions in support of Canadian athletes. Football 7-a-side
Cerebral palsy football, also called ''7-a-side football'' or formerly ''Paralympic football'', is an adaptation of association football for athletes with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders, including stroke and traumatic brain injury. From 1978 to 2014, cerebral palsy football was governed by the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA). In January 2015, governance of the sport was taken over by the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football, under the umbrella of ''Para Football''. The sport is played with modified FIFA rules. Among the modifications are a reduced field of play, a reduction in the number of players, elimination of the offside rule, and permission for one-handed throw-ins. Canada Women's National Ice Sledge Hockey Team
The Canada women's national ice sledge hockey team is the national team representing Canada in women's international sledge hockey. The team competed at the IPC International Cup and now competes at the Para Ice Hockey Women's World Challenge. The team currently receives funding from the Hockey Canada Foundation through grants which enables it to run a grassroots development program. The team participated in its first International Paralympic Committee-sanctioned international competition, the 2014 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey Women's International Cup now known as the Para Ice Hockey Women's World Challenge (a World Para Ice Hockey sanctioned event) whose inaugural year was in 2022. Tara Chisholm
Tara Chisholm is the head coach of Canada women's national ice sledge hockey team. Hailing from Medicine Hat, Alberta, she has served as Canada’s head coach since 2014. Career Prior to coaching in women's ice sledge hockey, Chisholm attended Medicine Hat College from 2006–08 and played on the soccer team. She then attended the University of Alberta from 2008-2010 where she mentored under U of A Panda's Head Coach, Howie Draper.
