Carl Balhaus (born Carl Ballhaus; 4 November 1905 – 28 July 1968) was a German stage and film actor. After the Second World War he worked as screenwriter and director for the East German East Germany, officially the German Democratic Republic (GDR; german: Deutsche Demokratische Republik, , DDR, ), was a country that existed from its creation on 7 October 1949 until its dissolution on 3 October 1990. East German Films
This is a list, in year order, of the most notable films produced in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany and the socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) from 1945 until German Reunification in October 1990. The state owned East German film company DEFA produced about 800 feature films between 1946 and 1992. Besides DEFA, the state broadcaster DFF and the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst (now the Filmuniversität Babelsberg) were the only other organizations in the GDR that produced feature films for cinematic release, although far fewer than DEFA. DEFA also produced about 750 animated movies and more than 2500 documentaries and short films. DEFA feature films are accessible and licensable as part of DEFA's entire film heritage on the PROGRESS archive platform. Wolf Kaiser
Wolf Kaiser (26 October 1916 – 22 October 1992) was a German theatre and film actor. He grew up in Switzerland, where he studied chemistry and physiology. In 1937 he was deemed unfit for service in the Wehrmacht, and then went to Berlin where he trained as an actor. Career Kaiser made his stage début in 1941 at the Stadtheater in Jihlava, Czechoslovakia, when that country was occupied by Germany. This led to Kaiser's engagement at the Volksbühne in Berlin from 1942 until 1945. Kaiser then had engagements in Frankfurt am Main, Munich and the Schauspiel Leipzig. In 1950 Kaiser returned to Berlin, where Bertolt Brecht recruited him to the Deutsches Theater and the Berliner Ensemble. Kaiser starred as Mack the Knife in Brecht and Weill's ''The Threepenny Opera'' in more than 450 times. Raimund Schelcher
Raimund Schelcher (27 March 1910 – 27 March 1972) was a German actor with Tanzanian citizenship who appeared in over 43 films and television programs between 1939 and 1971. Personal life He was born in Dar es Salaam, German East Africa (now Tanzania) to a railway engineer and a violinist. When Schelcher was fourteen, his family were evacuated to Germany after World War I. Between 1924 and 1928 he visited the Oberrealschule Kalk in Cologne. After earning a Mittlere Reife and after leaving school he entered the theatre. From 1928 to 1938 he took acting lessons at the Municipal drama school in Cologne. He died on his 62nd birthday in Berlin on 27 March 1972. Career In 1930 he debuted his role as Ferdinand in Intrigue and Love at the Theater Gießen.
