Department Of Health And Social Care (Isle Of Man)
The Department of Health and Social Care () is the largest (by number of personnel and budget) of the seven departments of the Isle of Man Government. It was created on 1 April 2014 as a result of a merger of health and social care services from the former Department of Health and Department of Social Care. The intention to merge the two Departments was announced on 2 December 2013 as part of the Council of Ministers' plans to modernise ministerial government. The move was by and large a reversal of one element of the restructuring of the Isle of Man Government in April 2010 which saw the former Department of Health and Social Security split to form the Department of Health and the Department of Social Care. The Department of Health () was a department of the Isle of Man Government. It was created on 1 April 2010, taking on the health services and public health functions of the former Department of Health and Social Security (Isle of Man), Department of Health and Social Security. On 1 August 2012 the Isle of Man's Mental Health Services were transferred from the Department of Social Care (Isle of Man), Department of Social Care to the Department of Health, which also saw the creation of a post for a second Member for the Department with specific responsibility for Mental Health. On 2 December 2013 as part of the Council of Ministers of the Isle of Man, Council of Ministers' plans to modernize ministerial government it was announced that the Department of Health and the Department of Social Care (with the exception of Social Security, which would move to Treasury) would merge on 1 April, subject to the approval of Tynwald. Steve Rodan
Stephen Charles Rodan MLC (born 19 April 1954) is a Manx politician who served as the President of Tynwald from 2016 to 2021 and is a former Minister of the Isle of Man Government and former MHK for the constituency of Garff. He was first elected to the seat in a by-election in 1995. He has been Isle of Man County Chairman of the Royal British Legion since 2012. Leonard Singer
Leonard Ian Singer (27 January 1943 – 27 December 2023) was a British politician and pharmacist based in Ramsey, Isle of Man. Life and career Leonard Ian Singer was born in Manchester on 27 January 1943. He qualified as a pharmacist in 1966. He resided in Portugal and Tenerife. He moved to the Island in 1989 and set up Singers Pharmacy in Ramsey, Isle of Man. He was involved in local politics as a member of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council from 1973 until 1986, and as a Ramsey Town Commissioner from 1991 to 1996. In 1996, he was elected as an MHK for Ramsey and in 2003 was elevated to the Legislative Council. In 2006, he resigned from the LegCo and stood in the general election for the House of Keys in Ramsey on the issue of restoring the 24-hour cover at Ramsey Cottage Hospital. Robert "Bill" William Henderson MLC RMN (born 28 December 1961) is a Manx legislator who, after winning a 1998 by-election, represented the constituency of Douglas North in the House of Keys, the directly elected lower branch of Tynwald, the Isle of Man's parliament. In 2010, he was elected to the upper house, the Legislative Council; he was re-elected in 2015 and again in 2020. A native of the Isle of Man capital, Douglas, Henderson was educated at Ballakermeen and St Ninians High Schools, gained a Professional Diploma in Management from the Open University and followed a career in nursing before going into politics. Arnold Callin
Alured Arnold Callin (25 August 1924 – 29 June 2015) was a Manx politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man. He was born in August 1924 and educated at Peel Clothworkers' School. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War and then became a businessman and auctioneer on the Isle of Man. Between 1956 and 1976 he served on Onchan Commissioners, twice being chairman. In 1976 he was elected MHK for Middle. James Anthony Brown OBE (born 5 January 1950) is a Manx politician and businessman who was the Chief Minister of the Isle of Man from 2006 until October 2011, when he stepped down from office following his decision to retire. Early life and career Born on 5 January 1950, Brown was educated at Victoria Road Primary, Castletown and Castle Rushen High School and has since been an electrician, being the proprietor of Tony Brown Electrics in Castletown until its closure in 2010. He was elected as a member of Castletown Commissioners in 1976, becoming chairman in 1980 before being elected as the Castletown MHK in 1981 at his first attempt.
