Services Australia, formerly the Department of Human Services and before that the Department of Social Security, is an executive agency of the Australian Government, responsible for delivering a range of welfare payments, health insurance payments, child support payments and other support services to eligible Australian citizens and permanent residents. Services Australia delivers social services through the government programs Centrelink, Medicare, the PBS and the Child Support Agency. Eligible Australian citizens and permanent residents can access many of these services through a myGov account. The head of the agency is the chief executive officer, currently David Hazlehurst, who is responsible to the Minister for Government Services, currently Katy Gallagher. Katherine Ruth Gallagher ( /'gæləhər/ GAL-ə-her; born 18 March 1970) is an Australian politician who has been serving as the Minister for Finance, Minister for Women, Minister for the Public Service and Vice-President of the Executive Council in the Albanese Government since 2022 and since 2025 as Minister for Government Services. She also formerly served as the 6th Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory from 2011 to 2014. Finn Axel Pratt (born 1960) is a retired senior Australian public servant. He was most recently Secretary of the Department of the Environment and Energy. Life and career Pratt has a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Centrelink in September 2008.
