Dennis E. Thomas (born September 5, 1953) is an American former gridiron football Center (gridiron football), center, college football Head coach (American football), head coach, college sports athletic director, and collegiate athletic conference commissioner. Biography Playing career Thomas attended Southside High School in his hometown of Heidelberg, Mississippi, where he played football and competed in shot put. He then played college football at Alcorn A&M College (now Alcorn State University) during the early 1970s. A center (gridiron football), center and three-year Letterman (sports), letterman, he received first-team All-American honors from the ''Pittsburgh Courier'' for the 1972 and 1973 seasons. Heidelberg is a town in Jasper County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 718 at the 2010 census, down from 840 at the 2000 census. Geography Heidelberg is located in southeastern Jasper County at (31.891249, -88.990952). The town limits extend northwest to encompass Exit 113 on Interstate 59. Marino H. "The Godfather" Casem (June 23, 1934 – April 25, 2020) was an American college football coach and athletic administrator. He served as the head coach at Alabama State University (1963), Alcorn State University (1964–1985), and Southern University (1987–1988, 1992), compiling a career record of 159–93–8. ''The Clarion Ledger'' is an American daily newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi. It is the second-oldest company in the state of Mississippi, and is one of the few newspapers in the nation that continues to circulate statewide. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen.
