Dennis Fritz Löfqvist (born 1 January 1967) is a former speedway rider from Sweden. He earned 7 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Speedway career Löfqvist rode in the top tier of British Speedway from 1989 until 1992, riding for King's Lynn Stars. He stood as reserve for the final of the Speedway World Championship in the 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship following a successful qualification through the Nordic final and his high placing in the Intercontinental Final. Christer Löfqvist (4 June 1944 in Visby, Gotland, Sweden – 1 February 1978) was an international motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. He earned 42 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Career Löfqvist reached the final of the Speedway World Championship in 1974. In the Swedish Speedway Team Championship he rode for Bysarna and Njudungarna. He competed in Great Britain for West Ham Hammers, Poole Pirates, and the Hackney Hawks. Family and death His son Dennis Löfqvist was also an international speedway rider. 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 45th edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. The final was held at the Odsal Stadium in Bradford, England. It was the 28th and last time the world final would be held in England under the traditional single meeting format. Sweden's Per Jonsson won his only World Individual Championship to become the first Swedish World Champion since Anders Michanek in 1974 and became the first rider to win both the Under-21 and Senior World Championships, having previously won the 1985 Under-21 World Championship. Jonsson defeated Shawn Moran from the United States in a run-off after both finished the meeting on 13 points. Moran was later disqualified by the FIM for failing a drug test taken at the Overseas Final. Bysarna were a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based at the Visby#Sports, Gamla Speedway Track, in Galgberget, Visby, Galgberget, north of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. They were four times Swedish Speedway Team Championship, league champions of Sweden. Season summary History 1921 to 1951 The beginning of speedway in Visby can be traced back to November 1921 when the Gotland Motor Association was formed. Eight years later in 1929 the Gotland Motorcycle Club were riding dirt track races. A meeting was held at Gutavallen on 23 October and several other meetings took place at various venues before the World War II, war. The Sweden national speedway team are one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. History The Sweden speedway team has won the Speedway World Team Cup and Speedway World Cup on ten occasions and were a major force in the opening years of the tournament, winning four out of the first five, between 1960 and 1964. Key riders of the period were Ove Fundin, Rune Sörmander, Björn Knutson, Göte Nordin and Sören Sjösten. The cup eluded them for 23 years between 1971 and 1993, but they regained the trophy in 1994, when Tony Rickardsson, Henrik Gustafsson and Mikael Karlsson were successful. Sweden bookended the original World Team Cup, winning the inaugural final at the Ullevi Stadium at home in Göteborg, in 1960 before winning the last World Team Cup in 2000 at the Brandon Stadium in Coventry, England.
