Denistone Railway Station
Denistone railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main Northern railway line, Main Northern line, serving the City of Ryde suburb of Denistone. It is served by Sydney Trains' Northern Line (Sydney), T9 Northern Line services. History Denistone station opened on 26 September 1937 with two side platforms. However, they were built with provision to be converted to island platforms at a later date. The western platform was converted on 24 October 1978, and the eastern platform on 27 November 1989 when extra lines were opened. It contains one of Sydney's smaller commuter car-parks. The station is located on a steep 1 in 40 gradient. The station was earmarked for closure in 2001 due to low patronage but the plan was strongly opposed by the community who eventually won their appeal for it to stay open. Denistone
Denistone is a suburb in Northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Denistone is located 16 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Ryde. Denistone West and Denistone East are separate suburbs. History The name of the suburb is derived from the name of a house built in the area by early European settlers Thomas and Elizabeth Forster. The Wallumedegal Aboriginal people lived in the area between the Lane Cove River and Parramatta River, which they knew as Walumetta. Gregory Blaxland, a free settler, purchased the Brush Farm estate in 1806, shortly after his arrival in the colony. This estate covered most of the area south from Terry Road to Victoria Road and Tramway Street, and east from Brush Road to Shaftsbury Road. North Sydney railway station is a suburban railway station located on the North Shore line, serving the North Shore suburb of North Sydney. It is served by Sydney Trains' T1 North Shore Line and T9 Northern Line services. History North Sydney station opened on 20 March 1932 at the same time as the North Shore line over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
