Denis "Dinny" Heagney (13 April 1898 – 11 March 1942) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Heagney, in just his fourth league game, was a follower in Geelong's 1925 premiership team. Smeaton is a rural town in the state of Victoria, Australia, near the town of Creswick. At the , Smeaton had a population of 231. The found that of the 231 population, 117 were male, and 115 were female. Their median age was 53, compared to the national median of 38. A breakdown of resident heritage showed that 21.3% claimed Australian heritage, 31.5% English heritage, 12.7% Scottish, 9.3% Irish and 4.6% Italian. The 1925 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Geelong Football Club and Collingwood Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 10 October 1925. It was the 27th annual grand final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1925 VFL season. The match, attended by 64,288 spectators, was won by Geelong by a margin of 10 points, marking that club's first VFL premiership victory. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 1 May until 9 October, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs.
