Denis (album)
''Denis'' is a midprice compilation album of recordings by the band Blondie first released by Disky Records in the Netherlands in 1996. It includes a number of singles, album tracks, b-sides and a demo of "Platinum Blonde" which previously appeared on the 1994 compilation album '' The Platinum Collection''. The compilation has since been re-released in UK and Europe Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and Asia to the east ... by EMI under the title ''The Essential Collection'' in 1997 and then again in 1999. The Tide Is High
"The Tide Is High" is a 1967 rocksteady song written by John Holt, originally produced by Duke Reid and performed by the Jamaican group the Paragons, with Holt as lead singer. The song gained international attention in 1980, when a cover version by the American band Blondie became a US and UK number one hit. The song topped the UK Singles Chart again in 2002 with a version by the British girl group Atomic Kitten, and Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall had a minor hit with his interpretation in 2008. The Paragons version "The Tide Is High" was written by John Holt and originally recorded by the Paragons (the rocksteady vocal trio of which he was a member), and accompanied by Tommy McCook and the Supersonic Band. Gary Lachman
Gary Joseph Lachman (born December 24, 1955), also known as Gary Valentine, is an American writer and musician. He came to prominence in the mid-1970s as the bass guitarist for rock band Blondie. Since the 1990s, Lachman has written full-time, often about mysticism and occultism. He has written more than 22 books on consciousness, culture, and the western esoteric tradition, written for journals in the US and UK, and lectured on his work in the US and Europe; his books have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Biography Musical career Lachman joined Blondie in spring 1975 after original bassist Fred Smith left to join Television amid founding bassist Richard Hell's departure. He wrote the music to the band's first single, " X-Offender", and popularized the band's sixties-retro look. X Offender
"X Offender" is the debut single by American band Blondie. Written by Gary Valentine and Debbie Harry for the band's self-titled debut album, '' Blondie'', the song was released as the album's lead single on Private Stock in June 1976. Song information The title of the song was originally "Sex Offender". Bassist Gary Valentine originally wrote the song about an 18-year-old boy being arrested for having sex with his younger girlfriend. Debbie Harry changed the lyrics so that the song was about a prostitute being attracted to the police officer that had arrested her. The track was co-produced by Richard Gottehrer who had worked with 1960s girl group The Angels, and the song is reminiscent of that era in its style. Private Stock insisted that the name of the single be changed to "X Offender" because they were nervous about the original title. It was released in mid-1976 with the B-side being "In the Sun". Jimmy Destri
Jimmy Destri (born James Mollica, April 13, 1954) is an American musician, and the original and longest-serving keyboardist for the band Blondie. Background Destri is of Italian descent. His father was a novelist who also wrote screenplays and eventually advertising copy to support his family while his mother was a housewife. He has a sister, Donna Destri, who is also a singer and did backing vocals for Blondie and Jimmy's own solo record. Destri grew up in Borough Park, Brooklyn, and was raised in his grandmother's house. His uncle played drums for Joey Dee and the Starlighters. He attended Catholic schools and went to Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School, but dropped out to form his first band. He played keyboards in the rock band Blondie, and was one of the principal songwriters for the band along with Chris Stein and Debbie Harry. He rejoined Blondie in 1997. "Picture This" is a 1978 song by the American rock band Blondie, released on their third album, ''Parallel Lines''. Written by Chris Stein, Debbie Harry and Jimmy Destri, the song features evocative lyrics that producer Mike Chapman surmised were written by Harry about Stein. ''Blondie'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Blondie, released in December 1976 by Private Stock Records. Overview The first single " X Offender" was originally titled "Sex Offender", but since radio stations would not play a song with such a provocative title, the band renamed the song. After disappointing sales and poor publicity, the band ended their contract with Private Stock and signed with Chrysalis Records in mid 1977. The album was reissued on the Chrysalis label in September 1977, simultaneously with Blondie's 2nd album '' Plastic Letters'', and the single " In the Flesh". ''Blondie'' reached No. 14 in Australia, where the band had already had a top-3 entry with "In the Flesh". Christopher Stein (born January 5, 1950) is an American musician and songwriter known as the co-founder and guitarist of the new wave band Blondie. He is also a producer and performer for the classic soundtrack of the hip hop film '' Wild Style'', and writer of the soundtrack for the film '' Union City'', as well as an accomplished photographer. "Rip Her to Shreds" is a song by American new wave band Blondie, which features on the band's self-titled debut album. Single information In a BBC Radio documentary about Blondie, lead singer Debbie Harry stated that "Rip Her to Shreds" is about what gossip columns do to people's lives. According to guitarist Chris Stein, the song is an homage to the Velvet Underground song "I'm Waiting for the Man". "Rip Her to Shreds" was Blondie's first UK single, released on Chrysalis Records in the UK in late 1977, though it did not chart. The single peaked at No. 81 in Australia in March 1978. Jack Lee (March 25, 1952 – May 26, 2023) was an American songwriter and musician best known for composing the songs "Hanging on the Telephone", covered by the new wave band Blondie, " Come Back and Stay", covered by the singer Paul Young, and "You Are My Lover", recorded by Suzi Quatro. Early life Born in Alaska in 1952, Lee left home at age 15 for Santa Monica, California, before relocating to San Francisco at age 19. There, he busked in the Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood, where he met fellow street musician Peter Case. Career Alongside Case and Paul Collins, Lee formed the seminal, yet short-lived power pop trio the Nerves in 1974.
