Demydiv
Demydiv (; ) is a village in Vyshhorod Raion, Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine. It belongs to Dymer settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Demydiv lies on the western bank of the Irpin River, north of Kyiv. It is one of the oldest villages in Ukraine, founded in 1026. Until the building of the Irpin's Kozarovychi Dam in 1960, the landscape of Demydiv was largely swamp and marshland. Destruction Of The Kozarovychi Dam
The destruction of the Kozarovychi Dam, which separated the reclaimed floodplain of the Irpin River from the Kyiv Reservoir, was carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 26, 2022, in order to prevent the advance of Russian troops during Russia's invasion of Ukraine. As a result, more than 2,800 hectares of land were flooded, as well as residential areas in the villages of and Demydiv. Course of events The Kyiv Reservoir was created during the construction of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant in the 1960s. To protect the lands in the floodplain of the Irpin River from flooding, the 1.4 km long Kozarovychi Dam was built, separating the floodplain from the reservoir, in addition to a pumping station that pumps river water into the reservoir. A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as ' district' in English. A raion is a standardized administrative entity across most of the former Soviet Union and is usually a subdivision two steps below the national level, such as a subdivision of an oblast. In Ukraine, a hromada () is the main type of municipality and the third level Administrative divisions of Ukraine, local self-government in Ukraine.
