Demonoid (film)
''Demonoid'' (also known as ''Demonoid: Messenger of Death'', and ''Macabra: La mano del diablo''), is a 1981 Mexican supernatural horror film written, produced, and directed by Alfredo Zacarías and based on a story by Zacarías. The plot centres on a group of explorers, who find a mysterious hand in Mexico that causes madness and death to whoever owns it. The film, an English-language Mexican production, was released theatrically in the U.S. in June 1981 to predominantly negative reviews; however, over the years, it has achieved cult movie status. Plot 300 years ago, in a mine located in Guanajuato, Mexico. A satanic cult built a temple where they sacrificed humans to the Devil by cutting off the left hand of their victims. In the present day, couple Mark and Jennifer Baines explore the temple where they find a small casket containing a severed hand which they take back to their hotel room. ''The Beast with Five Fingers'' is a 1946 American mystery horror film directed by Robert Florey from a screenplay by Curt Siodmak, based on the 1919 short story of the same name by W. F. Harvey. Video Archives was a video rental store located in Manhattan Beach, California, and later moved to Hermosa Beach, California, owned and managed by Lance Lawson and Rick Humbert. History Filmmakers Quentin Tarantino, Roger Avary and Daniel Snyder worked at Video Archives before becoming successful in the film industry. The store was also frequented by screenwriters Josh Olson, Jeff Maguire, John Langley, and Danny Strong. Video Archives closed in 1995, and Tarantino purchased its video inventory and rebuilt the store in his home. ''Fantasy Island'' is an American fantasy drama television series created by Gene Levitt. It aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984. Leonard Michael Maltin (born December 18, 1950) is an American film critic, film historian, and author. He is known for his book of film capsule reviews, '' Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide'', published from 1969 to 2014. Maltin was the film critic on ''Entertainment Tonight'' from 1982 to 2012. He currently teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and hosts the weekly podcast ''Maltin on Movies''. He served two terms as President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and votes for films to be selected for the National Film Registry. He has written books on animation and the history of film. He has also hosted numerous specials and provided commentary for several films.
