Democratic Force (Costa Rica)
Democratic Force ( es, Fuerza Democrática) nicknamed “''El Naranjazo''” (the ''Big Orange'' or the ''Orange Hit'' because the color of its flag) was a political party in Costa Rica. The party was founded in 1992 by Gerardo Trejos and other left-wing Costa Rican leaders taking the structure of the Progress Party that nominated poet Isaac Felipe Azofeifa for the 1990 general election. For around a decade was Costa Rica's main alternative force and third party in a very rigid two-party system dominated by the major parties PLN and PUSC. Democratic Force (french: Force Démocrate, FD) was a centrist political party in France founded in 1995 by the merger between the centrist components of the Union for French Democracy (UDF): the Christian-democratic Centre of Social Democrats and the Social Democratic Party. The party disappeared in 1998, when the UDF confederation became a unified political party. The former leader of Democratic Force, François Bayrou, became president of this party, and more recently leader of the UDF's successor party, the Democratic Movement.
