Delonegha Springs
Delonegha Hot Springs are located in Kern County, California, United States, northeast of the city of Bakersfield and southeast of Glennville. Delonegha is one of several hot springs adjacent to the Kern River and State Route 178. The springs lie within the boundaries of Sequoia National Forest, " down a steep dirt trail" from the highway. Except for a brief period in the first years of the 20th century when there was a small resort at the site, the Delonegha springs have remained largely undeveloped. History The geothermally heated groundwater at Delonegha (also spelled Delonagha) was known to the indigenous people of the area, who reportedly used them "for medicinal purposes". The springs take their name from the Dahlonegah Mining District where gold was found in 1866. Democrat Hot Springs
Democrat Hot Springs, named for the Democratic political party, is a geothermally heated spring located northeast of Bakersfield, California, United States, on the south bank of the Kern River and on the north side of California State Route 178. History The Democrat Hot Springs were named for the Democratic Party of the United States when they were developed beginning in 1903 by Delbert Hill. Hill and his father constructed a 15-room hotel surrounding by cottages for 100 additional guests. In the early days access was had by the "Breckenridge Road to Rock Springs Station after an overnight stop continued down the Cow Flat Road"; this route was known as the Nightmare Trail. Later a four-horse stage coach picked people up in Bakersfield and reduced the travel time to the resort to a "mere five hours". The property has had many owners since the Hills sold out. Kern River Valley
The Kern River Valley is a valley and region of the Southern Sierra Nevada, in Kern County, California. History The valley was inhabited for millennia by the indigenous Tübatulabal and Kawaiisu people, and various bedrock mortar and pictograph sites can be found throughout the region. Their first recorded contact with European settlers was in May, 1834, when Joseph R. Walker scouted a mountain pass through the valley. He would return along the same route in December, 1845 as part of John C. Frémont's third expedition, this time with cartographer and artist Edward Kern. While exploring the valley, Kern camped at the fork of a river, once nearly drowning in its swift waters. In return for Kern's service to the expedition, Frémont named it the Kern River. Remington Hot Springs
Remington Hot Springs are an undeveloped thermal spring system located on the banks of the Kern River near Bodfish, California and Lake Isabella in the Sequoia National Forest in Kern County. Description There are four rock and cement lined soaking pools at the site. The small Miners Tub is located 50 feet above the larger three pools which are located at the river's edge. The hot springs are maintained by volunteers, the Kern River Hot Springs Angels. The Angels periodically power wash the hot springs soaking tubs in the area. The springs are approximately one-and-one-half miles from Miracle Hot Springs. The three lower soaking pools are known for their "elaborate stone masonry work." Areas of the cement are embedded with "colored stones and jewelry, and "the word "Paradise" as is written in one of the steps leading to the pools." Miracle Hot Springs (formerly, Hobo Hot Springs; also known as Compressor Hot Springs and Clear Creek Hot Springs) is an unincorporated community in the Kern River Valley, in Kern County, California. It is located along the Kern River in the Sequoia National Forest West of Lake Isabella, California, at an elevation of . The earliest known name for this hot spring was Compressor, named after a turbine built by an indigenous miner. The turbine was supplied with water from Clear Creek that drove a compressor that provided air to miners working underground. The name Hobo was based on the rancher's name for the workmen who lived there, who were accused of stealing sheep and cattle.
