Delicatessen (band)
Delicatessen were an English indie-rock group formed at The hub in the early 1990s. They released three albums and four singles before splitting in 1998.Strong, Martin C.:"The Great Alternative & Indie Discography", 1999, Canongate, They were associated with the Britpop era. Biography Delicatessen was formed by Neil Carlill (vocals, guitar), Craig Bown (guitar, flute), Pete Capewell (bass) and Stuart Dayman (drums), taking their name from the French film. Signing to Starfish records, they debuted in October 1994 with the single "Inviting Both Sisters To Dinner", followed by "C.F. Kane" in April 1995. Debut album ''Skin Touching Water'' was released a month later. They headlined the little tent at Reading that summer, with Jonny Wood added on keyboards, percussion, backing vocals, and violin from then on. Capewell had already left, replaced by Joe wood. Indie-rock
Indie rock is a subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. The genre solidified itself during the mid–1980s with ''NME''s ''C86'' cassette in the United Kingdom and the underground success of Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. and Unrest in the United States. John Peel
John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), better known as John Peel, was an English radio presenter and journalist. He was the longest-serving of the original disc jockeys on BBC Radio 1, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004. Peel was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio. He is widely acknowledged for promoting artists of many genres, including pop, dub reggae, punk rock and post-punk, electronic music and dance music, indie rock, extreme metal and British hip hop. Fellow DJ Paul Gambaccini described Peel as "the most important single person in popular music from approximately 1967 through 1978. He broke more important artists than any individual." Poptones was a record label launched by Alan McGee after the demise of Creation Records in 1999. Its roster included The Hives, January, Oranger, Arnold (band), Arnold, Cherrystones, King Biscuit Time (musician), King Biscuit Time, The Mardous, Thee Unstrung, The Boxer Rebellion (band), The Boxer Rebellion, Beachbuggy, Pure Reason Revolution and Nick Laird-Clowes as Trashmonk. Ten Benson
Ten Benson are a rock band from London, United Kingdom formed in 1997. Their early releases saw them described as "psychedelic hillbillies",Strong, Martin C.: "The Great Alternative & Indie Discography", 1999, Canongate, but they later moved on to a (cod-) heavy metal sound. History The band was formed in 1997 by ex-Swimmer singer/guitarist Chris Teckkam, with Shiva Affect drummer Napoleon Catilo, and bassist Duncan Lovatt. Jonny Wood came in for live shows on keyboard and general crazy shenanigans etc. Three 7" singles were released in 1997 and 1998, the latter ("Evil Heat") getting considerable airplay on BBC Radio 1. Rainhill High School
Rainhill High School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Rainhill, Merseyside, England. The school is the official Liverpool F.C. Academy Education Centre in Merseyside for under-18 players to be educated. The Tears
The Tears were an English rock supergroup formed in 2004 by ex- Suede bandmates Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler, along with the former Delicatessen and Lodger members Will Foster (keyboardist), bassist Nathan Fisher, and Bernard Butler session drummer Makoto Sakamoto. The duo Anderson and Butler were a much anticipated reunion and music critics praised their first concerts and only album, '' Here Come the Tears''. However, the project was short-lived as they disbanded in 2006, which allowed Anderson to focus on his solo career before Suede reformed in 2010, Butler became a full-time producer, and Foster worked as additional musician for the Fratellis since 2008. Powder (British Band)
Powder were a Britpop band that existed between 1994 and 1996 and released three singles on Parkway Records. They were fronted by Pearl Lowe, with songwriters Mark Thomas on guitar and Tim McTighe on bass and James Walden on drums. Their highest-charting single, "Afrodisiac", reached No. 72 on the UK Singles Chart. Career Signed in late 1994 by music public relations agents John Best and Jane Savidge, they were the first band on the label. Their first single, "20th Century Gods", a '' Select'' Single Of The Month, sold out of its pressing of 1,500 within two days. This was followed by the release of "Afrodisiac" in June 1995, and appearances at music festivals as well as prime-time BBC music special ''Britpop Now''.
